SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,086, dated July 3, 1900. 'Application filedMaroh 23, 1900. $eria1 No. 9,905. INomociel.)
To a whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, MICHAEL L. Hours, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Display-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a display-box for use upon counters or show-cases of stores to hold and display articles of merchandise offered for sale.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure I is a view illustrating the blank from which the body of the box is produced. Fig. II is a front perspective view of the box. Fig. III is a vertical sectional view taken in the line III III, Fig. II. Fig. IV is a crosssectional view of the body of the box, taken on the line IV IV, Fig. II, looking upward, the back board being omitted; Fig. V is a detail view of the inside face of the supporting back board of the box. I
The blank from which the body of the box is formed is a single sheet, cut and scored as illustrated in Fig. I.
1 designates the front section of the body of the box, and 2 the back section thereof. Intermediate of the front and back sections 1 and 2 is an intermediate edge section 3, the front and back sections 1 and 2 being adapted to be bent on the score-lines A and B. At the end of the back section 2 is a free edge section 4, adapted to be bent from the back section 2 on the score-line O, and at the end of the front section 1 is another free edge section 5, adapted to be bent on the score-line D. When the blank is bent or folded, the free edge sections 4 and 5 overlap each other, as seen in Fig. IV, and are connected together by the gummed face 6 of the free edge sections 5, thereby forming a rectangular receptacle. At the lower end of the front section 1 are inner andouter flaps 7 and 8, connected to the intermediate and free edge sections 3 and 5 and scored on the lines E E and F F, the inner flap 7 being separated from the front section 1 and the intermediate and free edge sections 3 and 5 by slits G. These inner and outer flaps 7 and 8' are adapted to be folded backwardly into the rectangular form shown..
in Fig. III, the edges of the flaps being overlapped and secured together by adhesive substance. The inner flap 7 serves as a shelf upon which the articles X rest in the box, and the cutting out of said section provides an aperture 9 (see Fig. II and III) for the extraction of the articles from the box.
10 are lower-corner flaps adapted to be bent from the intermediate and free edge sections 3 and 5 on the score-lines H into the interior of the rectangular lower end of the box, formed by the inner and outer flaps-7 and 8. The cover-section 11 of the box is adapted to be bent from the front section 1 on score-lines I and to fit into the upper end of the box to form a closure.
12 are corner-flaps at the upper end of the intermediate and free edge sections 3 and 5,
adapted to be bent ontthe score-lines J and to serve as auxiliary cover'flaps inserted beneath the cover-section 11.
The articles X are inserted in tiers within:
the box formed as described, and the tiers are separated by a U-shaped partition member 13, (see Figs. II, III, and IV,) that holds the different tiers out of contact with each other, so that they may descend to the aperture 9 without interference with each other, said partition fitting over a central tier of articles. In the practical use of the box. the
articles X may be withdrawn from either tier through the aperture 9, and as each article is withdrawn the succeeding ones of the tier descend to place another article in position at the aperture for extraction.
14 designates the back board of the box, that is secured to the back section 2 of the boxbody by adhesive substance. This back board is provided with an easel-rest constructed as follows: 15 is an outer leg member" severed from the back board on the cut lines K and adapted to be bent from the board on the score-line L. This leg member is held in extended position back of the box-body by an inner brace 16, severed from the leg member on the cut lines M, and is adapted to be bent from the back board on the score-line M. The brace is provided with notches 17 at its edges, that are adapted to receive the inner edges of the leg member when extended and to hold said leg member from movement in the 7 position illustrated in Fig. III.
structed with a front section having a free edge section, inner and outer flaps at the lower end of the front section, and a scored cover-section at the upper end of the front section, a back section having a free edge section, and an intermediate edge section located between the front andback sections.
2. A blank for a display-box body constructed with a front section having a free edge section formed with corner-flaps, inner and outer flaps at thelower end of the front section, and a scored cover-section at the upper end of the front section, a back section having a free edge section, and an intermediate section having corner-flaps and located between the front and back sections.
3. A display-box body constructed with a front section having a free edge section-folded backward, inner and outer flaps at the lower end of the front section both folded backward, andascored cover-section at the upper end of the front section, a back section having a free edge section folded forward, and an intermediate edge section located between the front and back sections.
4. A display-box body constructed with a front section having a free edge section folded backward and provided with corner-flaps, inner and outer flaps at the lower end. of the front section both folded backward, and a scored cover-section at the upper end of the front section, a back section having a free edge section folded forward, and an intermediate edge section located between the front and back sections and provided with cor-nerflaps.
