To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, SOLOMON H. GOLDBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Containers and Exhibiting Devices, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to a combined container and exhibiting device and more particularly to a container by means of which a plurality of hairpins or'other articles can be distributed and one or more of the contents exhibited.

Among the salient objects of the inventionare to provide a device of the character re ferred to which can be formed from a single piece of cardboard or like material; to provide a construction in which a plurality of hairpins or other articles can be packed in assorted sizes, and if desired, distributed by mail or otherwise without danger of any of the articles dislodging from their seats and being lost; to provide a construction in which the hairpins or other articles can be quickly and easily inserted and withdrawn and the assorted sizes stored separately when not in use; to provide a construction in which a plurality of slots in one of the flaps allow the lower ends of the articles to formed in return bending the inner flap, this pocket being capable 'of containing a supply of articles additional to those exhibited; and in general to provide a construction which can be economically manufactured and assembled, in which the articles will be safely carried and will clearly present to the view of the person opening the outer flap one or more of the articles contained therein.

Referring in detail to the particular embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, 1 designates a .blank preferably cut from cardboard sufficiently stifl' to hold its shape when bent and having central sections2 and 3, the former of which is provided with an end flap 4 and the latter with n end flap 5. This last mentioned end flap bending them over and gluing them to the edge portions of the end flap 4, so as to hold the latter adjacent the section 2. The endflap 4 is provided with one or more apertures or slots 11, which form the seats for the pins, these seats being preferably curved to aid in directing the ends of the hairpin into en agement with the slot. When inserted t rough the slots 11, the articles are pushed down until their lower ends abut against the return bent edge 12 formed at the lower end of the flange or pocket.

After the device has been filled the center section 3 is bent down over the pins and its end flap 5 return bent onto the back of the section 2. The point 7 and tongue 6 are then inserted through the slot 8.

In the assembled )osition above desprlbed the contents are held firmly in place without the necessity of sealin the flaps thus permitting the package being mailed at the lower postagerates and the pins or other articles will be strikingly brought to v1ew upon opening the package. If desired, advertising matter as well as the name and address of the manufacturer of the articles can be printed on the inner face of the flap 3 or any other desired portion of the con ment of special machinery.

The device is'adapted for various uses, such as a selling package, an advertising mailing card for samples, an exhibiting device, and as a container for which the articles such as the hairpins can be kept in.

I claim as my invention: 1. A combined container and exhibiting device for hairpins and-the like, comprising a one-piece blank folded to form a central pocket, the inner wall of said pocket being apertured to provide a slot through which the lower' ends of a hairpin can be inserted, the position of the slot relative to the lower edge of the pocket being are ranged to permit the upper end' of the hairpin to project externally of the pocket, when its lower end is supported by the lower edge of said pocket.

2. A combined container and exhibiting device comprising a one piece blank having a central section, an end section bent back on said central section, side flanges secured to said central section and adapted to extend over the folded end flap, the latter having a slot through which the ends of the articles are inserted to rest in the pocket thus formed While the upper portion of the article extends onthe outside of said end flap, a second central section adapted to fold down. over said end flaps and said side flanges and means for securingthe last mentioned central'section in its folded position.

A combined container and exhibiting device comprising a one piece blank hav-' ing a central section, an end section bent back on said central section, side flanges secured'to said central section and adapted to extend over the folded end flap, the lat ter having a slot through which the ends of the articles are inserted to rest in the pocket thus formed while the upperportion of the article extends on the outside of said end" flap, and a second central section adapted to fold down over said end flap and said side flanges, the first mentioned central section'having a slot and the last mentioned central section having atongue adapted when return bent to extend through the slot in the first mentioned central section and hold the parts in their folded position.

. 4. A combined container and exhibiting device, comprising a one piece blank folded to form a pocket and a flap extending down over one of the walls of said pocket, said wall having a plurality of apertures forming seats positioned at gradually increasing distances from the closed edge of the pocket to receive assorted sizes of articles I with approximately the same relative proportion of each article being visible.
