ATTAGHMENT FOR ELECTRIC-LAMP SOCKETS.
smear.
tachments tor Electric-Lamp Sockets: and
I do declare thefo'llowing tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1
This invention relates tachnient for the switch to'an improved atoperating mechanism of electric light sockets, whereby -the' switch operating chain is held in-bperative position out of the way of the shade or globe ot' the lamp. v
One of the objects of the invention is to provide an attachment of tliischaracter having means whereby the switch operat ng chain'may be adjustably engaged therewith.
Another object is to provide a simple and improved means for quickly and easily securing the attachmentto the globe or shade holder. I
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel ,ieatures of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In'the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the attachment, showing the application of thesame; Fig. 2 is an enlarged top plan view the attachment showing a ortion of the globe holder in section to il ustrate the manner in which the attachment is secured to the holder; Fig. 3 is an enlarged side View of the attachment; Fig. 41 is a detail sectional view through the chain connecting coil at the outer end of the attachment, showing the manner the switch operating chain is adjustably secured to the attachment.
In the embodiment of the invention, I provide an arm 1 which'is formed from a wire rod bent. midway between its ends to form a series of coils 2. The-end portions of the rod are then brought together to form the arm 1 and said portiohs are secured together intermediate the ends of the armbv a ch or sleeve 3, which is preferably soldere or otherwise rigidly sepured thereto. In onepf the end portions of the rod, adjacent to the coils 2, is formed an eye 4, the

purpose of which will hereinafter be described. i
At the inner end of the arm the end portions of the rod are bent into the form of eyes 5 by means of which the arm is pivptally connected to a cotter pin or similar telling means 6 which is inserted through the apertured ears T'of. an attaching clip 8. The
clip 8 is preferably engaged with two of the ventilating openings 9 of the shade or globe holder 10 of thelamp socket '11.. hen the clip thus arranged, the cotter pin serves to pivotally connect the arm with the clip and also to secure theclip .into engagement with the shade holder.
VVh'en the arm 1 has been secured to the shade holder in the mannerdescribed, the switch operating chain .12 of the socket is engaged between the coils-Eat tho'outer end of the arm and the chain thus held in an operative position away tron] orout of contact with the shade o1'.'glol )e'of the lamp. y means of the coils 2, the chain may also be adjustably connected with the arm. Connected with the eye 4- is an operating cord '13 which may be of any suitable length and is preferablyprovided on its lower end with a bead or othcr suitable form of handle 14.
By means of an attachment constructed as herein shown and described, the switch operating chain otthe lamp socketwill be held a suitable distance away from the socket to prevent the interference of the chain with the globe or other parts of the lan1p,.and by means of a clip the chain holding arnrniay be quickly and easily attached to the globe holder or other suitable part of the lamp. "lhe arrangement of the coils on the outer end of the arm i'm'iiis a convenient and reliable means for quickly attaching the outer end of the switch operating chain to the arm.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawclaim.
Having thus described my 1nvention,what
