fo (LU whom ii 'may concern:
Be it known that i, Masini ldiLLARD, a citizen oli the Unied States, residing et lal larl, in the county of foolr and State of Illinois, have .inrenlied certain new and useful ,linproven'xenls in Urulergarnients for AWomen, or' which the following is a specifieartion, reference hcingr had io Jfhe aecoinpanying drawing. This .inreniion relales lo impr( fnnenis in under garments for weinen. th some winnen i'he caianionial or menstrual dis charge is so great iehai the orilinarx7 napkin or cloth is insulliciiint io prevent 'ihe llow of i'luid fron] escaping beyond it :ind hence the under and oni'er skirts of he. woman are Liie pienlly saturated with sin-h disclnirge, such sainralion oilen showinggl Through l'he dress skirt of he nonnin, thus noi' only damaging l'hc skiri hni musing' cniharassllis ihe ohicrl ol' niv inreniion lo provide i derive having a lhrce-'l'old iihjcclfI Anunely, ls'l, io provide means lor holding -he usual napkin or cloth more securely in place, 9nd. l'o 'provide means for adei'luaiely i'nofecting` lroni damage the skirts of the wearer lroin any over-flow oi' ihe lhiid 'lroln the cloth or napkin. and 3rd, to proride nieans 1for holding the skir'-pi'oleclino' device in proper posilioi. and inciificlilallyY iherclo aiding in suppowlinsr ihc hosiery of the wearer. l accomplish {hese ohjeeis hy lhe consgrnelgion shown in ihe drawing; and hereinar'er specifically descrihed.
That which l claim lo he new will he set .iorih in he claim.
The figure. oil ihc drawing shows a por speeiirc View o'll the device vwith the paris in the posilion ihey will assume when the device is secured lo ihc. wcajirers body.
Referring to lhe drawing'. l indicates a Yn'aisldminl adapted -io he secured 'around lhc waist of ihc wearer, it heine` provided, as shown, with a longue sind buckle hy which ii' mayy be ligh'ened np as desired. ifo the waistband l is siwxured the upper edge o'l a depending shield comprising, .in the construction shown, a nmin central portion adapled to coniforin to lhe rear of the wearer helow rho waistline. and side wings or exlensions adapted lo he hroughiy around hc hips or' iho wearer and depend i'or some little dislanre so :is io lio against the legs.

l legs. lts free end is provided at its opposite corners with lannion-holes 5 edep'ed to receive loutons 6 served on the ends of straps 7.. These straps 7, es shown.,- sre. erranged diagonally, when ,in place on the wearer, and are secured at their upper ends by sewing, or in any orher suitable meneer, lo the waist-hand l. By arranging these hands diagonally, The extension el is held with its side edges pulled away from each other so es to always maintain the?, as far as possible in the form of 2i olefin. band. This extension l adapted to here placed on its under surface the nsnal. napkin or cloth lhal. receives lhecai'einenial o; inensii-ual discharge from l'he uterus, die fr lions f2 and s* ilioruiing a snldle for the nii/x; kin or vlolh, lhe roar ond of whieh is perIN inanently secured to ihe rear or" rho vweis band,r he forward end being rcrnovahlf cured lo "ghe freni: 'ihe hand ny Ineans'r the sraps 7. These holes will be protecied against being torn open by constant use hy sewing their edges as in the ease or' ordinary heb ton-holes.
To the lower edges of the wings 3, l attach straps 10 which he shortened or leng'hened desired by buckles, and lio the lower ends oi hese straps aiecli. ordinnrjyY hose yedect or tending to disconnnot supporters ll. These straps are so located that the hose-supporters will be attached to the hose on the inner sides of the legs. This attachment aids in keeping the side Wings in proper position around the upper portions of the legs of the wearer and ii'icidentally affords a support for the Wearers hose.
As will he seen the side Wings or eXtensions are secured respectively to the opposite edges ot the saddle, the line of connection extending from the rear of the saddle to a point slightly in advance ot the distance between the liront and rear of the Waist-hand along the direction of length of the saddle; said extensions or side-wings are also permanently secured to the waist-hand, extend ing forwardly a distance sullicient to cause the Wings to be .positioned over the hips of the wearer, but terminating at a point Where the material of the wings is snl'licient. to iorin a complete closure, the Wings each forming an incomplete closure around the lo s, the particular .torni in which the Wings shaped and the manner in which each is connected to the saddle and Waist-hand shaping the wings to provide a shield which 'w ill snno'ly lit the leg at all portions excepting portion oi the front, the circamierential length or' a cross-section of the Wings being such as to prevent any overlapping of the :tree edges or the wings, said edges being permanently spaced apart. By this construction it will be understood that the garnient inay he placed beneath tightly litting andergarments Without formino' a bulging le the wearer, being especially applicable for use in connection with the union' suits in common use and consisting of a combined corset cover and drawers. Furthermore, the form of the saddle with its ends of increased width, and the connectingl of the upper ends of' the Wingslto the Waist-band tends to retain the Wings in the proper shape when in use, even though the Wings be located over the drawers, this construction preventing liability of the parts doubling up or bulging when the -wearer is seat-ed. And owing to the perinanent spacing of the edges ot' the wings, it will be understood that the entire Wing portion Will be brought into snug fitting con 'tact with. that portion. of the legs of the wearer to be protected against the emape of A the catainenial flow.
By my invention, I provide a device that enables the usual cloth or napkin to be securely held in proper position to receive the discharge from the uterus, such cloth or nap kin being, as will he -readily understood from the description, held distended as niuch as possible by reason oi" being secured by safety pins passing through the ,airs of holes 8 and 9, and the extension 4l being held dlstended laterally as niuch as possible by means of the diagonal arrangement of the straps 7. Furthermore, with the rear portion of the body immediately below the waist line and the upper parts of the legs at the sides and rear protected, there is but little danger, if any, of such catainenial or menstrual discharge as escapes past the cloth or napkin coining in Contact with the skirts of thevvearcr. This latter is a very decided advantage over devices now ordinarily used, and particularly so for that large class of Weinen Whose monthly discharges are so excessive as to prevent the discharge being wholly retained by the usual cloth or napkin.
lflfhat l claim niy invention and desire lo secure by Letters latent is garment of the class described comprising a waistband, a saddle secured to the waist-band at its rear and having detachable connection with the band at the front, and side wings permanently secured to the saddle and band, each Wing being divided in the direction of its length to provide perrnanentlyl spaced opposing edges adapted to permit the wings to snugly lit the legs and hips of the wearer` and provide a permanent opening at the front and running lengthwise of the legs of the wearer, said opening extending from the waist-band to the lower end of the Wings, the lines of connection of wings and saddle and ofthe wings and waist-band heilig of a form to canse the wings to assume a shape in crosssection incoinpletelyY surrounding the leg.
