Be'it known that we,MoUmJnn W. Cowan and DAVID -Fnurnn, citizens of the United States, residing at Parsons, in the county ot 5 Labetteand State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burn- .ers of which the iollowing is a specification.
.lhis 'inventionvrelates to improvements in crude oil burners adapted for use in heating stoves and also for use in the furnaces of steam boilers and for other analogous purposes, the object of the invention being to provide a novel form of burner which is not liable tobe'come clogged with" the oil when the vapor thereby etiecting a complete comhustion o the oil and producing no smoke.

The accompanying drawing is a sectional view of a crude oil burner constructed in accurdunce with our invention, showin forming a casing.
In accordance with our invention, weprovide a downwardly extending air mlet and heating chamber which in t e embodiment of the invention here shown is open at its lower and, is provided at its upper end with a laterally "indie cy indrical m'form. The said cham ber may have its walls constructed of any suitablematet'ial such as iron or steel and in practice, is dis need in an outer casing which is here in icated as the casing 3 of'a heating stove. The, stove is provided with the usual door 13 to enable the pan 9 to be placed in or removed therefrom and with the usual door 14 corresponding with a tire door, the same being located at such point as tion of the chamber 1 readily accessible.
In chamber 1 is a vaporizer 15 which here shown as bell shaped or conical, is open a't its lower end and is provided near its -lowe'r end with a series of openings 16 to 'admitair to. the interior of the vaporizer from the chamber 1. The retort is here shown as formed .at its 11 per end with a cylindrical portion 17 to which connected tie lower end of an oil feed pi 3c 18 having a bore of suitable diameter, the said pipe being disposed in an upright position and in practice leadingdownwardly from a suit able reservoir or vessel containing crude oil. Inpractice, a suitable valve will be emgloyed to re ulate the flow of crude oil ownwardly t irough the feed pipe 18 to the hell or vaporizer. It will be observed that the lower end of the oil feed ipe terminates rizer. In practice the flow of 'oil through the pipe is so controlled by the valve that the oil is'caused to pass slowly through the pipe and in a small quantity so that the oil s reads on the inner surface of the i e and a so 51 eads on the inner surface ot tlie hell or vaporizer, hence, the interior surface of the wall of the bell-shaped vaporizer is supplied with oil continuously by the said ipe. Assumin that the hell or vaporizer has een. initially eated to the requisite degree, the crude oil as it comes downwardly throu h the pipe 18 will be converted into as in t c retort both by direct contact with t e heated interior surface of the vaporizer and by the heat reflected therefrom. The air in descndih through the chamber 1 will be heated oth by the walls of said chamber and by'the eaterior of the heated vaporizer and hence the air which enters the vaporizer atrthe lower open end thereof through the openings 16 from the chamber 1 will be heated and will commingle with the heated ases or. vapors from the vaporizer and "once" such eommi led air and sees or vapoi's'w ill burn be ow the vaporizer and in thecasingB, as will be understood.
