Description

To all whom it 'may concern:
'lined gtair Letters .Patent No. 94,902,Adated September 14, 1869.
IMPRQVED INTERFERINGPAD.
TheV Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama.
Be it known that I, WALTER A. LovELAcE, of Richmond, in the county of Berkshire, and State of Massachusetts, havcinvented a new and improved Interiering-'Pad; and I doy hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact. description of' the same, reference being had to theaceompanying drawings, which'form part of this specilication.
The diticulties heretofore attending .the use of -interfering-pads have been, first, that on account of the v unyielding or non-elastic natureof the pad-fastenings,
and the attendantevariation inv the circumference of l the horses leg, owing to the distention or relaxation of the. muscles thereof, the vapparatus must, ot' neces sity, either bind the leg 4too tightly while the muscles are distended, as, for instance, when the leg is snstaining the Weight ot the body, or else must fit too loosely while the muscles are more relaxed, as, for example, when the leg is lifted from the ground-in the former case inflicting not only pain, but also injury to these diliiculties, and thereby remedy their attendant evils; and to this end,
The apparatnsconsists of an interfering-pad, constructed or provided with wire or elastic metal-clamps, whereby the end is attained.
'lheinvention also consists in the combination with the above of a pad or pad-frame, constructed of elastic wire, in a convolnte form, whereby a better protection is afforded and a more durable apparatus is obtained. y
Referring to the accompanying drawings- Figure l represents a perspective view of an interfering-pad, constructed according tol my invention; and
Figures 2, 3, and 4 represent 'perspective views of interibring-pads provided with my elastic-wire clamp,
illustrating its applicability to pads for protecting different parts ofthe leg.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several drawings.
A is an interfering-pad ofthe ordinary construction. To this pad A is attached my elastic-Wire clamps B, in a manner as'shown, so that by their elasticity, provision is made for a close but easy fit in the diiierent positions of vthe leg, and under diterent conditions of the muscles thereof. These clamps B are-constructed ofa single piece of wire, and'are so formed as, in their normal state, to fit, as nearly as is practicable, the transverse form of that portion of the leg upon which they are designed to rest. Y
For securing'the apparat'lrls to the leg, after being placed thereon, the extremities of the clamp are connected with each other by means of a leather strap, a, which, being secured in a loop, or ring on one end, is passed over a hook on the other.
Additional elasticity may, when desirable, be given to the clamps, by forming in the wire, at suitable localities, spring coils b, as represented.
A is an elastic-wire pad, or pad-frame, which may be used, in combination with the elastic clamps B, with or without the usual leather pad A. Said wire pad,
What I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured by Letters Patent, is- A 1. An interfering-pad,provided with wire or elasticmetal clamps, constructed substantially as shown and i described.
2. In combination with the elastic-metal clamps, the pad, or pad-frame, constructed of elastic wire, in a convolute form, substantiallyas specified.
' WALTER A. LOVELACE.
