In the manufacture of this device the leather pieces 7 and 8 are cemented to the corset fabric 1' at the place nearest to the average need for a pad. The leather pieces and the canvas are then cut simultaneously to provide the slots. The pads and plates 9 are provided separately. 7

When the corset is to be fitted to an 1ndividual the pad (if one is sufficient) or the pads 21 (if two are needed) are separated from the plates 9 by having the screws 15 completely removed. Each pad 21 1s then placed on the inside of the corset and the plate 9 on the outside of the corset with the slots in the plate registering with the slots in the corset. The screws are then replaced in the pad through the slots with the washers 16 in place. If the pad 21 needs to be moved sideways to fit the needs of the individual it will ordinarily need also to be turned through a small angle. This motion can be accomplished by sliding the pad so that the screws enter the cross slots 11 and 14;. The curved character of these slotsenables both of these motions to be accomplished without binding. If the pad needs to be adjusted lengthwise only, this can be done from'the original position, by letting the screws travel along theone slot 10. The dotted lines in Figure 2 represent an unusual case in which the pad has first been rotated with the screw at the cross-slot 14 remaining in the slot 10 until the other screw has entered the slot 13. The pad has then been moved approximately lengthwise until the last named screw arrives. at the 7 ing along the slot 10.

If a still greater rotation of the pad is needed the lower screw may be made to enter the lower half of the slot 14 instead of travel- The correct'position for the pad 21 having been found, the plate 9 is moved into a position in register with the base 17 and the screws 15 tightened. The fastenings or key hole fixtures on the ends of the straps 3 and 4 are then engaged over the studs 5 and 6 and the corset is ready for use. 1

Figure 4 illustrates a modified form of a key hole fixture 22 having integrally formed thereon a flexible metal clip or tongue 20 which is adapted to contact the head of a stud 5 or 6 to hold said key hole fixture in place against accidental release from a stud on which it is engaged.

I am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not therein, and having other slots crossing the central one of said parallel slots, one of said cross slots connecting the outer-parallel slots, clamping screws traversing said slots, and a body into which said screws enter and by which they are held at a fixed distance from each other, said distance equaling the distance between the cross slots along the central one of the parallel slots.
