To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL C. LOGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lisbon Falls, in the county of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful lvashboiler, of which the following is ay specification.

The objects of the invention are, generally, the provision, in a merchantable form, of a device of the class above mentioned which shall be inexpensive to manufacture, facile in operation and devoid of complicated parts; other objects being made manifest hereinafter as the description of the invention progresses.

The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, delinea-ted in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in that portion of this instrument wherein patentable novelty is claimed for certain distinctive and peculiar features of the device, it being understood that, within the scope of what hereinafter thus is claimed, divers changes in the form, proportions, size and minor details of the structure may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In carrying out my invention, l provide, primarily, a reservoir 1, which is designed to contain the heated water and to house the remaining portions of the device. This reservoir 1 is provided upon its exterior with suitable handles 2, whereby it may be lifted and manipulated. The portions of the cover which lie upon each side of the slot 6 are further braced and retained by means of handles T which are mounted transversely of the slot (i. The portions of the cover 5 which are adjacent to the slot 6 are downwardly bent, as denoted by the numeral 8. Braces 9 are provided, having their ends rigidly assembled with the shell 3, a. clothes-receptacle 10 heilig disposed within the shell 3 and being rigidly assembled with the braces 9. This clothes-receptacle 10 is provided with a foraminous bottom 11, the upper edges` of the clothes-receptacle being overbeut, as denoted by the numeral 12, into substantially parallel relation with the flange al of the shell. Intermediate their ends,and preferably at their lower portions, the braces 9 are out-bent, as denoted by the numeral 14, to form resilient clips, between which is mounted a tray 15, the tray being disposed between the foraminous bottom 11 of the clothes-receptacle and the bottom of the reservoir 1, it being understood that the shell 3 is open both at the top and at the bottom. This tray 15 is arranged to inclose laterally the lower portion of the receptacle, and is provided with a slanting bottom 16. In its preferred form, the bottom 16 of the tray is divided longitudinally into two oppositely sloping portions, which rise into connection with the sides of the tray which are engaged by the clips la. Mounted upon the bottom 11 of the clothes-receptacle are transversely disposed brackets 17, designed to contact with the tray 15 and to space the same from the clothesereceptacle. The tra)v itself carries similar transversely disposed brackets 18, designed to contact with the bottom of the reservoir 1. lt will be seen that by means of these brackets 1T and 18 and the clips 1-1, the tray is securely held in its position between the clothes-receptacle 1() and the reservoir 1.

Tn practical operation, the tray 15 is inl serted between the clips 11 and forced i upward into contact with the brackets 17. The shell 3 is then inserted into the reservoir l 1 and forced downward therein to bring the y lower edge of the shell 1 into contact with g the bottom of the reservoir and to bring the brackets 18 into the' position shown in F ig. i 2. Soiled clothing may then be placed withl i l in the clothes-receptacle I0, the same having been filled with water. The cover 5 is then placed upon the device and heat is applied to the bottom of the reservoir l.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect, by Letters Patent, is

l. In a device of the class described, a reservoir; a shell inclosed by the reservoir and having an open bottom; a clothes-receptacle inclosed by the shell and having a :toraminous bottom; a. tray disposed between the bottoms ot the receptacle and. the reser Voir; and a bracket carried by the bottom ot the tray and arranged to contact with the bottom of the' reservoir.

2. In a device ot the class described, a reservoir; a clothes-receptacle mounted in the reservoir and having a i'oraminous bottom; and a tray disposed beneath the clothes-receptacle and being spaced from the bottom of the receptacle and trom the sides of the reservoir, the bottom oi' the tray being upwardly inclined, the tray being arranged to inclose laterally, the lower portion of the receptacle.

In a device ot the class described, a reservoir; a` clothes-receptacle mounted in the reservoir and having a toraminous bottom; and a tray disposed beneath the receptacle and arranged to inclose the lower portion thereof, the tray being spaced i'rom the bottom ot the receptacle and from the sides of the reservoir, the bottom ot the tray being upwardly inclined in opposite directions, throughout. its length.

ll. In a device of the class described, a shell, a clothes-receptacle inclosed within the shell and provided with a toraminous bottom; a tray disposed beneath the receptacle and being spaced from the bottom oli the receptacle and from the sides ot' the shell; oppositely disposed braces having their terminals mounted upon the shell and being arranged to engage the receptacle, the braces, intermediate their ends, being bent to form tray-engaging clips, and a reservoir to inclose the shell.

5. In a device of the class described, a reservoir; a shell inclosed by the reservoir and having an open bottom; a clothes-receptacle inclosed by the shell and having a foranlinous bottom; a tray disposed between the bottoms of the receptacle and the reservoir; a bracket carried by the bottom of the receptacle and arranged to space the tray from the receptacle; and a bracket carried by the bottom of the tray and arranged-to contact with the bottom oi' the reservoir.

6. In a device ot the class described, ashell, a clothes-receptacle inclosed by the shell and having a foraminous bottom; a tray disposed beneath the clothes-receptacle;

resilient clips carried by the shell and arranged to engage the edges of the tray; and a reservoir to inclose the shell.

In a device of the class described, a shell; a clothes-receptacle mounted in the shell and spaced laterally therefrom, the receptacle having a. i'oraminous bottom; the upper edges of the shell and of the receptacle being inbent to form vertically spaced overlapping tlanges;and a cover arranged to restl on the flange of the shell; and a reservoir to inclose the shell.

In a device of the class described, a shell; a clothes-receptacle mounted in the shell, the receptacle having a foraminous bottom, the upper edges of the shell and of the receptacle being inbent to form vertioa ily spaced flanges; a cover arranged to rest on the flange ot the shell, the cover being apertured and being down-bent at the edges of the aperture to extend below the flanges; and a reservoir to inclose the shell.

In a device oi' the class described, a reservoir; a shell inclosed by the reservoir and having an open bottom; a clothes-receptacle inclosed by the shell and having a toraminous bottom; a tray disposed between the bottoms of the receptacle and the reservoir; a bracket carried by the bottom of the tray and arranged to contact with the bottom of the reservoir; and resilient' clips carried by the shell and arranged to engage the edges of the tray.
