POULTRY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2'7, 1906.
Application filed July 6, 1905- Serial No. 263,573.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS ALBERT DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Findlay, in the county of Shelby and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Poultry Drinking-Fountain, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to drinking fountains I or troughs for poultry in which a supply means, as a reservoir, is used in connection with a drinking-pan.
It is the object of the invention to preserve the water in sanitary condition and also to facilitate the means for small poultry to have easy access to the water and at the same time prevent them from getting into the same so that they cannot get out again.
My invention is to be ascertained from the following description and the subjoined claims, as well as the drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the three distinct parts in separate form. Fig. 2 is a View of the fountain complete, the parts shown in Fig, 1 being assembled in usable order..
Similar letters designate similar parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.
E designates the drinking-pan, of suitable form and material, being herein shown as round, provided with several supporting posts F and a bar G, extending between two of the posts and a little lower than the same.
A designatesthe receptacle-barrel, which may be cylindrical in form, having an annular horizontal flange B extending from its extreme lower edge. Drinking holes or openings 0, formed at intervals through the flange B, and triangular pieces D, having the function of partitions, are arranged on the flange B and extend up to the side of the receptacle-barrel A on opposite sides of the openings C.
H designates the reservoir or barrel for the water to be supplied to the pan, said reservoir being of suitable form and material, herein shown as a fruit or preserve jar simply the pan, and the reservoir, being the jar H inverted, will be supported in the cylindrical part of the receptacle-barrel with its end resting on the cross-bar G.
In use the fountain or jar H may be filled with water, and holding the hand over the top it may be quickly inverted and in this position inserted in the barrel A with its lower end resting on the bar G, whereupon sufficient amount ofwater flows out into the drinking-panE until it covers the bar G, upon which the fountain rests, as stated, and from the fact that the bar-support is only about one-half the height of the studs enough water only is allowed to escape to fill the drinkingpan about half full, and the supply will be replenished from the fountain H substantially as fast as it is consumed. The several openings C furnish ample room for young poultry to insert their beaks and drink, while the space surrounding the openings oifers room for them to stand on the horizontal flange surrounding the openings and between the partitions, so that they may keep from getting into the water and befouling the same and also keep from getting wet.
By an inspection of the parts composing Fig. 1 it will be seen that they may be readily separated and Washed, if necessary, and that they are made of substantial strength, so as not to be liable to become broken.
I claim 1. A poultry drinking-fountain, consisting of a pan, having supporting means in the bottom, substantially as stated; a receptacle-barrel having a horizontal flange provided with drinking-openings resting on said pan; and a reservoir or fountain, closed at the top and open at the bottom, arranged in said barrel and resting upon said supporting means in the pan.
