WILLIAM JAMES LONG, OF BLACK HILLQ, YUKON TERRITORY, CANADA.
SOAP-HOLDER.
aomeo.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. LONG, a subject of the King of Great Britain, res1ding at Black Hills, in the Yukon Territory and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soap- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in receptacles for holding soap and aims to provide a neat and attractive holder which may be either detachably hung to a wall or other vertical support or may be rested upon a. horizontal surface.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a holder constructed so that the soap will be spaced from the sides to permit of a circulation of air around the soap so that the latter will be rapidly dried after use, the soap resting upon a grate like or reticulated bottom, so that its entire surface will be exposed.
The invention further aims to provide means for catching water which drips from the soap, the spacing of the soap from the sides of the holder preventing the water from running down these sides.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear when the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of a soap holder constructed in accordance with the present invention and shown suspended from hooks carried by a wall or other support;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a similar view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a Fig. 1; and
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Referring to the drawings in detail like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
" As shown in the accompanying drawings, the holder comprises a vertically disposed elongated receptacle including sides 10, whose lower ends are bifurcated to provide preferably outwardly curved feet 11 upon which the receptacle may rest. The receptacle is formed with an upper soap receiving compartment 12, the bottom of which is formed of a plurality of crossed wires 13,

threaded through openings 14 formed in the sides of the receptacle. By threading the wire 13 backward and forward through the openings 1-l a reticulated bottom of wire mesh is provided upon which the cake of soap is adapted to rest, so that both the bottom and top of the soap will be exposed to the action. of the atmosphere for rapid drying.
In order to space the soap away from the sides of the compartment 12, the side walls of the latter have spaced therefrom parallel strands of wire or bars 15 the latter being formed by threading the w1re through openings 16 formed in the sides of the compartments.
Located beneath the bottom of the coinpartment 12 are openings 17, one of these openings being formed in each of the side walls of the receptacle to provide for circulation of air through the compartment 12.
Located beneath the lower ends of the openings 17 and within the side walls of the receptacle is a pan 18 which is adapted to receive water dripping from the cake of soap in the compartment 12. By spacing the soap from the sides of the compartment the water will drip directly into the pan 18 and be prevented from running down the inside ofthe walls of the receptacle. The bottom 18 may be formed in various ways, such as being made integral with the side walls of the receptacle and the feet 11 riveted or otherwise secured thereto. The present showing however consists in forming this bottom separate from the receptacle and in the shape of a pan having side flanges 19 which may be secured to the side walls of the receptacle in any desired manner. To further aid in holding the pan in position, slits 20 are provided between the legs 11, the material between these slits forming a tongue 21, which is bent inwardly beneath the pan 18 to support the latter in position.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportion and minor details of construction and the right is reserved to make such changes as will fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed, is
1. A soap holder comprising a receptacle having a soap receiving compartment therein, horizontally disposed wires threaded through openings in the side walls of the receptacle and woven to provide a reticulated bottom for the compartment, means located in the compartment for preventing the soap from contacting with the side walla thereof and a drip pan located beneath the compartment.
2. A soap holder comprising a receptacle having a soap receiving compartment therein, a flexible element threaded through openings spaced from the side Walls of the c0mpartment to provide spacing bars to prevent contact of the soap with the side Walls of the compartment and a drip pan located beneath said compartment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 15
WILLIAM JAMES LONG.
