Application August 25, 1953, Serial No. 376,427
1 Claim. (Cl. 45-28) This invention relates generally to toilet articles and is directed particularly to improvements in soap trays or dishes.
The present invention has for an object to provide an improved soap dish or soap receptacle which may be used in the bathroom, kitchen or other locality where cake soap is commonly used, and which is designed to effect the quick or rapid drainage of water from the soap cake so that a minimum amount of the soap will be dissolved and run off after the cake has been used, thereby not only lengthening the life of the cake of soap but leaving it in a clean and substantially dry condition for the next use, either by the same person or by other persons.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved soap dish or receptacle having a drawer or tray as a part thereof which is formed to provide a separate or individual receptacle which may be used for the convenient temporary disposal of safety razor blades, the structure being so designed that the blade receptacle can be opened for the insertion of a used blade without having to draw out or remove the drawer part of the structure into which pass the drippings from the soap cake.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description of the same proceeds and the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described since obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in top plan of the combined soap dish and used razor blade receptacle of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing the numeral generally designates a housing which com prises the bottom wall 12, the back wall 14, and side walls 16.
As shown in Figure 2, there is no front wall to the housing, thus providing an entrance opening into which can be introduced the drawer structure which is generally designated 18. I
Extending along the top edge of the back wall and along each of the side wall top edges are the inwardly and downwardly directed flanges 20 and 22 respectively and disposed transversely of the housing between the side walls at the front of the housing is a wider inwardly and downwardly disposed apron 24 which is joined to the side flanges 22 as illustrated in Figure 1. The inner edges of the flanges 20 and 22 and of the apron 24 lie in a common horizontal plane and provide an opening 26 in the form of a frame and extending transversely across this opening in spaced parallel relation are bars or wires 28 which are secured at their ends to the free edges of the side wall flanges 22 as shown most clearly in Figure 3, where the welding of the ends of the bars to the" flanges is indicated by the reference character 30.
The drawer 18 is of a height slightly less than the height of the space from the bottom 12 to the bars 28 and, as shown, the drawer comprises the bottom 31, the front and back walls 32 and 33 respectively and the side walls 34.
The length of the drawer is equal to the full length of the bottom 12 of the housing so that a portion of the drawer at the front lies below and is covered by the inclined apron 24- and extending transversely of the drawer between the side walls 34, in the vertical plane of the lower edge of the apron 24 is a partition wall 35 which divides the drawer into a small forward compartment 36 and a larger rear compartment 37.
The top edge of the wall 35 is provided with a number of apertures 38 in each of which is engaged a hinge ring 39 and these hinge rings are engaged in apertures 40 formed along one longitudinal edge of a lid or cover 41 for the compartment 36. This lid or cover has a central forwardly projecting ear portion 41a which facilitates the lifting of the lid so that used razor blades may be dropped into the compartment 36 without having to pull out the drawer 18. It will be seen that the inclination of the apron 24 is such that the front edge of the lid 41 can be raised sufficiently to permit this.
To facilitate the withdrawal of the drawer 18 the front wall 32 is provided with the handle loop 42 as illustrated.
Where it may be desired to secure the soap receptacle to a supporting wall, the back wall 14 of the receptacle is provided with the two apertures 43 through which may be passed securing screws or the like. I
From the foregoing it will be apparent that there is provided by the present invention a novel sanitary soap receptacle which is so designed that it can be economically constructed and which also provides a safe and convenient means for temporarily disposing of used safety razor blades where they can be kept until permanent disposition can be made of the same.
I claim:
In a receptacle for soap and razor blades, a rectangular hollow body having bottom, side, back end and top walls, and an open front end, said top wall having an open depressed portion spaced inwardly from its side and front and back edges, the portions of the top wall bounding said depressed portion being outwardly and upwardly inclined and connecting the topedges of the side and back end walls, a plurality of uniformly spaced soap supporting bars extending transversely across the depressed portion, a drawer housed within said body, a partition extending transversely within the drawer adjacent the front end of the drawer to form a razor blade compartment, a lid for said compartment hingedly connected with the top edge of said partition, the inclined portion at the front end of said depressed portion having a width substantially equal to that of said compartment to provide a clearance to allow opening of the lid sufiiciently for the insertion of used razor blades into the compartment without drawer movement, and a pull loop, on the front end of said drawer.
