Description

(No Model.)
H. S. FOUNTAIN.
WASH BOILER.
Patented Oct-5,1886.
WI 1 .N'ESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY STEPHEN FO UETAIN, OF MARLIN, TEXAS.
WASH-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350.356. dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed May 17, 1886. Serial No. 202,373. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY STEPHEN FOUN- TAIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marlin, in the county of Falls and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wash-Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Y Figure l is a vertical sectional view of my improved wash-boiler. Fig. 2 isa top view of the same with the cover removed, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to that class of washboilers in which water is boiled in a lower compartment and forced through pipes up into the clothes; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of such a boiler, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a cylindrical casing, which is provided near its bottom with a partition, B, having a central screw-threaded neck, 0, and a series of perforations, L, around its outer edge.
The lower female-threaded end of a tube, D,
fits upon this neck and is-formed with a closed upper end and with a series of perforations,
and perforated tubes E, triangular in section, are secured to the inner sides of the cylinder at intervals, having stoppers F in their upper ends, the lower ends of saidtubes coveringthe perforations L around its outer end.
The boiler is provided with a removable "cover, G, and with suitable earsor handles, H,
and a rack, I, consisting of rings J J, con.- nected at their upper edges by cross-pieces K, is placed in the bottom of the boiler, resting upon the partition.
When the lower compartmenthas been filled with water, the clothes may be placed upon the rack in the bottom of the boiler, and when the water is, brought to boil the steam will pass up through the perforated central tube and through the side tubes, penetrating the clothes, which will be perfectly boiled, and which may rest perfectly free from all sediment, as the rack raises the clothes above the bottom.
After passing through the clothes down into L the rack I the water passes through the lower holes in the central and side tubes back into 7 the chamber below, leaving the dirt and sediment in the rack, thus avoiding the objection 'of throwing the dirt back upon the clothes after it has once been removed, as would be 7 the case if there were holes in the'partition below the rack, instead of in the tubes at a distance from the bottom.
The perforated central tube may be removed for filling the lower compartment, or for the purpose of cleaning either the compartment or the tube, and the triangular tubes upon the sides of the boiler may be cleaned by removing the stoppers and passing a suitable rod down through them. 1 1
. Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a wash-boiler, the combination of a boiler having a partition at its lower end slightly above the bottom formed with a screw-threaded neck at its center, a perforated tubefitting with its lower end upon the neck and having ,its upper end closed, and a number of perforated triangular tubes upon the side of the
