W. H. H. HIND-S. BAG NET FOR USB IN WASH BOILBRS.
Patented May 24, 1887,
att l l [nyeno 7 m. fffffamzw z UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON HINDS, OF KENNEBUNKPORT, MAINE.
BAG-NET FOR USE IN WASH-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 363,638, dated May 24, 1887.
Application filed December 11, 1886. Serial No. 221,256. (No model.)
.To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY HAR- RIsoN HINDS, of Kennebunkport, in the county of York, of the State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bags or Nets for Holding' Clothes in a XVash-Boiler; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of whichl Figure 1 is a side View, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, of a bag or net of my invention, the nature of which is defined in the claim hereinafter presented. Fig. 3 is a top View, and Fig. 4 an under side view, of the wooden bottoming or clothes insulator of such net.
In such drawings, A denotes a bag or net formed of netting or with meshes like those of a fishing net or seine. Vithinsuch bag or net is an insulator or bottoming, B, which is composed of a grid, a, or its equivalent, and a perforated cap or board, b, arranged upon and fixed to it. The grid, as shown, which is a support for the board, consists of a series of parallel bars, 1 1 1, united at or near their ends by two cross-barst' i. The cap or board b has in it a series of holes, to allow water to freely pass through it. This bottoming B, arranged in the bag A at its bottom so as to cover the latter, is to be of a size to iit with the bag or net loosely in the lower part of a wash-boiler, and is to so insulate, from the bottom of such boiler, clothes or articles when in the bag or net and being bpiled, as to pre Vent them from becoming scorched or-burned, as they would be liable to be were the bag or net unprovided with the insulator or bottom. ing B.
With a bag or net having in it an insulator substantially as described-that is, a perforated board or plate having supporting devicesextending down from it-elothes while being boiled in the bag or net in a wash-boiler can be prodded or punched and worked or turned over to advantage without danger of doing injury to the bottom of the boiler. After removal of the bag or net with the clothes and insulator from the boiler, the wlole can 4be placed on a washbench or a door or hearth without liability of the clothes being soiled, for by the bottoming they will be kept from contact with the article or surface on which the bag or net may be placed.
I am aware of the device or wash-boiler attachment shown in' the United States Patent No. 141,429, and do not claim it, it being different in construction from my invention, inasmnch as it has no flexible net nor any wooden grid, nor has it any grid and a perforated board or cap resting thereon, as is the case with my wash-boiler attachment. Vith the bag or net, the clothes can be thoroughly covered or inclosed on the top of them, and they can be kept down upon the -bottoming and cannot rise and float in the water off and independently of such bottoming or become in any way caught upon any frame of metal. v Besides, with the net and wooden bottoming, there is no danger of the clothes being stained by rust, which might result were the bottoming surmounted by a-mctallic frame.
I am also aware of the dish-washer de scribed and represented in the United States Patent No. 272,894, in which a basket constitutes a part, such diiering materially from my invention, in which a bag-net forms a part, which can be collapsed on the clothes, so as to hold them down upon the grid within it, which cannot be done with a basket. I therefore do not claim a basket as described, adapt ed, and used with a disk-receiving rack, as represented in saidl Patent No. 272,894, as I have in my invention no such basket or rack.
I claim- The combination of the clothes-bag or bagnet with. the perforated wooden board b and its supporting wooden grid c, arranged in such bag or net and with respect to each other, as set forth.
Wlll'lllll lll'lNltY HARRISON NINDS.
