WINDOW VENTILATION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 2, 1909.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS J. BEs'r, citizen of the United States, residing at Woodville, in the county of Tyler and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Ventilation, of which the following is a specificatlon.
My invention has relation to window ventilatoi's and its main object is to produce a device of this kind that will be eiflcient in its operation and not expensive as to its cost.
In warm, dry weather a house may be ventilated by simply raising the window, but in damp, rainy, or cold weather this cannot be done with efliciency. Therefore I have 1nvented a device which is adapted to be placed in the ordinary frame of a window that will aflord means of ventilation wlthout the usual disagreeable conditions accompanying. This device may be so placed 1n the frame of a window and the window let down upon it that it needs no other fastening means to hold it in place.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification the novelty of such construction being particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of my device in position, looking from the outside of a window in the frame of which it is placed. Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of my invention viewed from the inside of a building. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: is a horizontal sectional view also taken on Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, my invention is described as follows:
The window frame 1, is supplied with the usual guide-rails 2, between which the window-sash travels.
The frame 3, of the ventilator 4, is composed of two substantially rectangular sections 5. Extending outwardly then upwardly from each of said sections is a flue 6, provided with a cap 7, pivotally mounted at the upper end thereof by means of a spindle 8. Each of said spindles is actuated by means of a hand-lever 9, by means of which said caps may be tilted at various angles as illustrated in Fig. 8. The sidewalls of each of said flues terminate at their upper ends in V-shaped peaks 10, the object of which will be obviously apparent. Secured to either or both of said sections 5, are inverted U-shaped members 11, for the reception of the window-sash when said frame 4, is placed in position.
lVhen putting the ventilator in the window, raise the window-sash and place the said ventilator in the window frame as illustrated in Fig. 4, diagrammatically. The Ventilator being in position let the windowsash down upon the frame of said ventilator far enough as to be received by said members 11. If, when the ventilator is placed in position, the wind is coming into the room too strong the caps 7, may be manipulated in such a manner as to regulate the same.
Though I have specifically described my invention I may claim the right to make such changes in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof as fall within the scope of the claims hereunto attached.
Having described my invention what I claim as new is:
1. In a window ventilator two substantially rectangular sections hinged together securely, fiues, one extending outwardly" from each of said sections, then upwardly the side walls thereof terminating in V- shaped peaks and a cap provided at the points thereof, said cap or lid being so pivoted midway on the peaks as to close either one side or the other of the fines and means comprising a lever for regulating the position of said cap, substantially as shown.
2. A device of the class described comprising a flue, a cap pivotally mounted at the upper end thereof, the sidewalls of said flue terminating in Vshaped peaks, said cap so mounted midway on the peaks as to close one side or the other of the flue, a spindle as means whereby said cap is mounted, and a hand-lever secured at one end of said spindle for the adjustment of the position of said cap, substantially as described.
3. In a window ventilator of the class described two substantially rectangular sections hinged securely together, flues, one ex tending outwardly from each of said sections, then upwardly, the side walls thereof terminating in V-shaped peaks, said peaks falling near the center of said side walls, said peaks each provided with a perforation passing therethrough, a cap provided with midway the peaks as to be adapted to close perforated ears, each of which perforations register with a corresponding perforation in presence of two witnesses.
