Description

P. 'CLARK.,. Screen Window-Blinds;
'Pat ented Nov. 24,1874.

m m m WITNESSES THE GRAPHICCO, PHDYO-LITHJSI 44 PARK FLACE,N,Y
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN P. CLARK, JR., OF JACKSON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCREEN WlNDOW-BLlN DS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 57,194, dated November 24, 1874 5 application filed October 31, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN P. CLARK, J r., of Jackson, Jackson county, Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Window, Screen, and Blind, of which the following is a specification:
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my improved combined window, screen, and blind. Fig. 2 is a vertical trans verse section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a top View of the interior frame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to so improve that class of windows that turn on side hinges in the window-casing that the blinds are arranged in adjustable connection therewith, together with detachable panes and screens, furnishing thereby better ventilation and greater convenience in use.
My invention consists of a hinged windowframe havlng an interior bottom hinged part, which may be partially-opened, and which is arranged with a blind in connection with a detachable top piece and sliding pane and screen.
In the drawing, A represents the outer window-frame, which is hinged to the side of the window-easing in the usual manner, to be thrown open and closed entirely, if desired. The outer frame A incloses an inner frame, B, that fits closely into the open part of frame A, being hinged along the lower edge to the same, so that it may be swung into inclined position as far as two pivoted and slotted side strips,
U, near the upper end, will admit of. The sliding strips 0 settle in side recesses b of the frame A, when the inner frame is carried back into the outer frame, frame B being secured in this position by suitable sliding or springlatch pirces d. The blind-slats D are pivoted in the usual manner to the interior frame B, at the inside thereof, and adjusted at any angle of inclination by the blind-slat rod D. The top piece B of frame B is detachable, being connected by dovetails to frame B or hinged at one side, to be thrown open when frame B is placed in inclined position, so that the glass pane E and wire screen F, which slide in inner guide-grooves e of frame B, may be taken out and replaced as desired. i
In hot weather the screen would be used and the pane taken out, while during the cold season the pane is reinserted and the screw taken out.
The window would thus furnish a summer protection against mosquitoes, flies, 850., while giving the proper ventilation, either by open ing the window completely for a time, or by placing the inner frame in inclined position.
A suitable weather-strip of the outer frame extending along the inner frame, together with an outer bottom flange of the lower piece of the inner frame, secure the tight closing of the frames against wind, dust, and rain, and form a very useful and convenient window for buildings of all kinds.
As the glass pane may be too large for easily handling the same, it may be divided into two or more parts and separated by grooved lateral strips connected to sliding side strips. The panes are in this manner replaced with less expense in case of breakage.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. The combined window, screen, and blind, composed of side-hinged outer window-frame A and bottom-hinged interior frame B, having blinds D D, detachable top piece B, sliding pane E, and screen F, arranged and applied, substantially as specified.
2. The hinged interior pane and screen holding frame B, provided with adjustable blindslats D, as described.
3. The interior frame B, having side grooves e, in connection with sliding pane E and screen F, and detachable binding top piece B, substantially as specified.
