Description

anion.
ELLEN I-IODGlVIAN, 0F ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA.
WASHBOARD.
Application filed August 16,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLEN HODGMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexandria, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in fashboards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wash boards, its object being particularly to provide an improved form of soap holding receptacle for wash boards.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the wash board embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same partly broken away; and Fig. 3 is a section on line -f of Fig. 9..
Referring to the drawings A represents a wash board of ordinary construction. It is formed in its upper end with an opening 3. Secured in the opening 3 by means of vertical pivots A is a soap receptacle 5. The soap receptacle is formed with an enlarged bottom portion 6 and openings 7 to allow the drainage of the waste water from the soap. In order to hold the soap receptacle in set position I provide a spring pressed pin S eX- tending through one side bar of the wash board and fitting into an opening 9 in the corresponding end of the soap receptacle. Vhen it is desired to turn the receptacle upon the pivots 4 the pin will be withdrawn against the tension of the spring l0 allowing the receptacle to be swung upon the pivots as shown in Fig. l whereby the soap receptacle may be used from either side of the wash board.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 18, 1910.
1909. Serial No. 513,023.
B represents a rubbing board of any suitable construction secured to the side bars of the wash board.
The top wall ll of the soap receptacle projects forwardly beyond the sides of the receptacle to form a guard 12.
I claim as my invention:
l. A wash board of the class described comprising side bars and an intermediate rubbing board, said wash board being formed with an opening above said rubbing board and between said side bars, a receptacle positioned in said opening, said receptacle having top and bottom walls, independent pivotal support between the upper and lowerl walls of said opening and the upper and lower walls respectively of said receptacle and a catch for holding said receptacle against rotation upon its pivots.
2. A wash board of the class described comprising side bars and an intermediate rubbing board, said wash board being formed with an opening above said rubbing board and between said side bars, a soap receptacle positioned in said opening, said receptacle being formed with a relatively deep curved bottom and with openings 7 along the rear of said bottom and being also formed with a top wall l2, independent pivotal supports between the top and bottom walls of said opening and the top and bottom walls respectively of said receptacle, and a spring pressed pin extending through one side bar to said wash board in cooperation with an opening in the end of said receptacle.
In testimony whereof I afHX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. ELLEN HODGMAN.
