ROOF ORNAMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALoNzo E. Bownns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roof Ornaments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates more particularly and has its object in the combination of means for readily attachin and securing a finial of customary general form to the ridgeroll of a roof, gable or cupola and I attain these objects as shown in the accompanying drawings and more fully described in the following specification and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

Figure l is a side view of the finial complete; Fig. 2 is an end elevation looking in direction of arrow 2; Fig. 3 is an end elevation looking in direction of arrow 3; Fig. 4 are end views with outer band removed and parts separated; Fig. 5 represents a section of ridge-roll to which device is secured; Fig. 6 is a broken view of roof and ridge-roll with finial placed in position and fastened by a nail driven into the facia-board. Fig. 7 shows a cheaper construction.

The different parts of the device are pointed out by letters and a represents the body preferably stamped out of two parts of sheet metal as shown at Fig. 4; a formed at lower edge of the body part is a longitudinal section on each side semicircular in section and adapted to be pressed over the common ridge-r0110 accommodating it to different sizes by means of the springing quality of the depending sections a the two sides a being fastened together at a with solder or by other suitable means.

b represents a belt bordering the outer form of body used when desired, and is fas tened with solder at different points about the circumference of the body. The device Without this belt is shown at Fig. 4.

0 represents an ordinary ridge-roll with aprons 0' secured to roof 0! and with the finial placed on said roll and a nail b driven through the tongue 12 into the facia board 6 the finial is securely held.

The device may be constructed at less expense by using a plain body part having formed the section a for one side and a similar section a formed with slight vertically projecting flange by which it is riveted or soldered to the body part as seen at Fig. 7.

In the contemplation of my invention and its application in the arts I do not confine myself to the particular form and construction hereinbefore described, wherein a num ber of alterations are obvious and might be resorted to attaining similar results, and I hold myself at liberty to employ any equivalent means that fall. fairly within the spirit and scope of my invention, and

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a finial the combination with an ornamental body part springing gripping means to hold fast to the ridge-roll of the roof, and a downwardly to be secured to facia boar by nailing thereto as shown.

2. In an ornamental cresting block composed of two ornamental sides or parts projecting upwardly and being soldered together at a number of points about their circumference, a semi-tubular section formed at bottom edge of each side comprising a slitted tubular base adapted to be pressed down over the ridge-roll and so proportioned that it will cling firmly to the said ridge-roll as shown and specified.
