Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. DOYLE, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherwood, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to plows, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a plow comprising a frog upon which is detachably mounted a share in operative position with relation to a land-side. The frog is provided with a longitudinally disposed recess having inclined side walls, and the share is provided upon its inner or rear side with a rib having inclined side walls, said rib being adapted to fit snugly within the recess of the frog. The mold-board of the plow is provided with a depending lug, which is adapted to support the rear portion of the share, and the rib is provided with a transversely disposed set screw, which is adapted to bear against the rear edge of the lug and hold the share in position with relation to the mold-board.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is an elevation of the plow showing the frog with the share removed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the share detached. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the share mounted upon the frog.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing the frog 1 is provided with a longitudinally disposed recess 2, having inclined side walls 8. The mold-board 5 is mounted upon the frog 1 in the usual manner, and is provided at its lower edge with a depending lug 6. A share 7 is of the usual configuration, and is provided upon the under surface of its side which lies below the mold board 5 with a rib 8, which is provided with inclined side walls 9. The share 7 is adapted to rest upon the lower portion of the frog 1, and the rib 8 is adapted to slip longitudinally in the recess 9, and, when so positioned, the inclined walls 9 of the rib will fit snugly against the inclined walls 3 of the recess 2. A set screw 4: is located in the end portion of the rib 8 and is adapted to bear against the rear edge of the lug 6 to hold the share 7 in position upon the frog 1.
In assuming position upon the lower portion of the frog 1 the share 7 may slip along the same until the front edge of the frog 1 comes in contact with the angle formed at the forward portion of the share. When the share is in position upon the frog the rear portion of the share bears against the forward surface of the lug 6 which depends from the mold-board 5, and the set screwis screwed into the rib 8 behind the rear edge of the lug 6 to hold the share in position.
While the set screw 4 is provided, it is not necessary,"under all circumstances, that means should be provided for positively connecting or attaching the share to the frog for if the recess in the frog is disposed as indicated and receives a rib mounted upon the share and the plow is used for breaking purposes, the pressure of the soil against the share will have a tendency to firmly seat the same upon the frog and thus it is possible under ordinary circumstances to maintain the share in proper position upon the frog even though positive securing devices be eliminated.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A plow comprising a frog having a recess longitudinally disposed along its mold-board supporting side portion and a share having upon its under side a rib adapted to slip longitudinally into the recess and fit snugly therein.
2. A plow comprising a frog having upon its mold-board supporting side portion a recess longitudinally disposed and provided with inclined side walls, a share having upon its under side a rib having inclined edges adapted to slip longitudinally into the recess and fit snugly therein.
3. A plow comprising a frog having upon its mold-board supporting side portion a recess longitudinally disposed, a share having upon its under side a rib adapted to slip longitudinally into the recess and fit snugly therein, a mold-board mounted upon the frog and having a lug which lies behind the share and a screw adapted to enter the rib and bear against the rear edge of said lug.
