Description

S. HUBER.
. PLOW.
lie-186.088, Patented J'an.9, 1877.
INVENTOB momma.
N PHERS, PHDTO-UTHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. D C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL HUBER, OF DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,088, dated January 9, 1877; application filed December 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HUBER, of Danville, in the county of Montour and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Plow, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the land-side. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing the mold-board and share. Figure 3 is a view looking toward the bottom of the plow.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
Myinvention consists in attaching the share to the plow by means of a projecting finger or dowel that fits into a corresponding aperture in the mold-board, and in locking the share by means of a dovetail in the beam and land-side, the object being to provide a means for fastening the shares or points of plows without bolts.
Referring to the drawing, A is the beam of the plow, to which the mold-board B is attached by means of bolts in the ordinary Way. 0 is the land-side, which is attached to the plow by means of bolts a a, and is provided with a lug, b, that fits in a slot, 0, in the shank of the plow. The front end of the land-side has formed upon it a dovetail projection, 07, that fits into a corresponding recess, 6, in the side of the share D. A notch,f, is out in the beam, which, together with the upper side of the dovetail projection 11, forms a dovetail recess, into which the part 9 of the share fits. An aperture, h, is made in the mold-board at the angle of the recess, in which the back of the share fits, and a finger or dowel-pin, a,
formed on the share, projects through the said aperture, and securely holds the share in its position in the recess in the mold-board.
If the point should become loosened by wear or otherwise it may be drawn against the beam by placing lagging between the front end of the slot 0 and the lug-pin b, and drawing the land-side down against the shank or frame of the plow by means of the bolts a a.
The advantages of this method of fastening the share are obvious. N 0 bolts are required, and consequently the surface of the share may be smooth and entire, the usual danger of breaking the share by tightening the bolts is obviated, and it is not liable to become accidentally loosened.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- 1. The plow-share D, having formed upon it the finger i for engaging with the aperture h, in the mold-board, and a dovetail recess, 0, and projections g g, for engaging with the beam and land-side, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a share, D, made substantially as described, the mold-board B,
.having the aperture 2', the land-side (J, provided with the dovetail projection d, and lugpin 1), and the beam A, having the recess f and slot 0, substantially as shown and described.
