To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Vrooo J. A. C. MEN- ones and Lounnxon LARSEN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Combined Hall-Stands, Step- Ladders, Ironing-Boards, &c.; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to household furniture and more particularly to an article of furniture which may be transformed into a chair, hall stand, step-ladder, ironing'board or shelf.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings illustrating our invention Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of our device when used as a hall stand. Fig. '2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the device illustrating certain details of construction. Fig. 1 is a view in side elevation of the device when used as a combined ladder and shelf. Fig. 5 is a view in side elevation of the device when used as an ironing-board. Fig. 6 is a view in side elevation of the device when used as a stepladder.

Referring to the various parts of the device as they appear when the article is used as a hall stand or chair and as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3,5 designates the base portion of the device and is mounted upon casters 6, 6. Rigidly secured to said base 5 are three integral steps 7 8 and 9 which, when the device is used as a hall stand or chair, form compartments for the storage of small articles.

10 designates a horizontally arranged board or seat member which is hinged to the top of the upper step 9 by pivot pins 11, 11. Secured to one face of said seat member 10 are two steps 12 and 13 which, in the position of the device illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, rest with their tops upon the tops of the steps 7 and 8, respectively. A thumb screw is inserted through the engaging tops of the steps 13 and 7 to retain said steps in the position illustrated.

Secured to the side margins of the seat member 10 are two horizontally arranged frame members 16, 16 t0 the rear ends of which are attached vertical frame members 17 and 18 arranged with their faces at right angles to each other. .\t their upper ends each of the members 18 is provided with a socket 19, the socket in one of said members being adapted to receive. a removable hat hook 20, and the other of said sockets being adapted to support a removable hat hook 21 and an umbrella holder Horizontal brace members 22) are secured at their ends to the rear margins of the frame members 17. A swinging standard 28 is hingedly secured to the horizontal cross bar 26 on the back 25 and serves as a support therefor when the device is used for a shelf or ironing-board, as will hereinafter more fully appear.

\Vhen our improved device is used as a combined ladder and shelf, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the steps 12 and 13 are swung upon the pivots 11, 11 to bring the frame members 17 and 18 into such a position that their upper ends rest upon the floor; the back 25 is drawn out and placed in a horizontal position with its lower end upon the top step 13; and the standard 28 is swung on the hinge it; until its lower end rests upon the floor and affords a support for the outer end of the board.

\V hen used as an ironing board the back 25 is swung horizontally through an angle of 180 from the position shown in Fig. -1 to that shown in Fig. 5, the end of the back 25, which rests upon the step 13, being preferably provided with an internally screwthreaded socket which will receive a set screw let. lVhen used as ladder only, as illustrated in Fig. 6, the back may be left in its vertical position in which case it will afford a means of support for the user when standing upon the step of the ladder.

As an additional means for bracing the device when in the position illustrated in Eigs. 4, 5 and 6, there are hlnged to the 'rear of the base 5 two molding strips 30, 30.

Each of said strips is provided on its free end with a hook 31 which, when the strip is swung into the position illustrated in said Figs. a, 5 and 6, enters a slot 82 provided in the frame member 17 and engages a pin 33 extending transversely therethrough.

The invention above described is a com pact, attractive piece of furniture, which. is not only useful in that it may be used to serve the various ends described, but is ornamental as well.

A combination hall stand, step-ladder and ironing-board comprising in combination, a base, a set of steps rigidly secured thereto, a second set of steps pivotally secured to said first set and adapted to fold down thereon, horizontal and vertical frame members attached to said second set of steps, hat hooks removably supported in said vertical frame members, a back member slidably supported between said frame members, and a mirror removably supported upon said back member.

2. A. combination hall stand, step-ladder and ironingboard comprising in combination, a base, a set of steps rigidly secured thereto, a second set of steps pivotally secured to said first set, horizontal and vertical frame members attached to said second set of steps and adapted to swing therewith, a back member slidably supported between said frame members, and a standard hinged to said back member, said standard being adapted to support one end of said back member when said back member is in a horizontal position.

3. A combination hall stand, step-ladder and-ironing-board comprising in combination, a base, a set of steps secured thereto, a second set of steps pivotally supported on the first set and adapted to swing outwardly therefrom to form a ladder, vertical frame members secured to said second set of steps, said vertical members forming supports for said ladder, and braces connecting said vertical supporting members with said base.

A combination hall stand, step-ladder and ironing-board comprising in combination, a base, a set of steps rigidly secured thereto, a second set of steps pivotally supported upon said first set and adapted to swing outwardly and upwardly therefrom to form a ladder, vertical members attached to and swinging with said second set of steps, said vertical member being adapted to rest with one end upon the floor and being provided near their lower ends with slots, pins extending transversely of said slots, brace bars hinged to said base, and catch members upon the free ends of said bars ada )ted to en a 'e said transversel extendt3 :3
