THEODORE W. TUCKER, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
PROTECTING DEVICE FOR FOOTWEAR.
aaaoss.
Application filed. March 12, 1909.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE IV. TUCKER,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protecting Devices for Footwear, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in protecting devices for footwear; and an object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which Will be simple in construction and very cheap in manufacture and which may be readily and securely fastened in place.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention, and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a plan of my new protecting device; Fig. 2 is a section on the line AA of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section on the line BB of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a detail showing in perspective the bottom of a shoe provided with my new protecting device; and Fig. 5 is a detail in section showing my new protecting device in place on the sole or heel of a shoe, boot or other article of footwear.
The bottom-plate a of my new protecting device is formed with a countersunk recess Z) and with a hole 0 which communicates with the countersunk recess 6. In the latter lies the head (Z of a screw 6 which passes through the hole 0 and by which the device is held upon the wear-lift f of the heel part or sole of a boot or shoe. From the bottomplate a and integral therewith extends upwardly and outwardly a side-plate or ear 9, which is adapted to lie snugly against the side it of the wear-lift 7 (Figs. 4 and 5).
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. Id, 1999.
Serial No. 482,985.
Opposite the side-plate 9 there projects from the bottom a of the device, a rib or flange z' having a sharp edge which adapts it to be forced into the leather, rubber or other material of which the Wear-lift is made. Midway between the ear 9 and the rib 2', on a line with and on each side of the hole 0 and adjacent the unobstructed edges of the plate there extends upwardly a tooth or prong adapted, like the rib, to be driven into the wear-lift f. The rib 2', the teeth and the screw 6 serve to hold the device securely in place and the flange 9 cooperates with the teeth j and rib z in preventing the device from turning upon the screw 6 as a pivot.
I claim:
A protecting device for footwear, consisting of a bottom-plate formed with a hole; a sideplate which is integral with said bottom-plate and extends upwardly therefrom; a rib which extends upwardly from said bottom plate at the side thereof opposite from said side plate; and prongs which extend upwardly from said bottom-plate midway between said rib and side-plate, said prongs being on a line with and each side of the hole in the bottom plate and adjacent the unobstructed edges of the plate; said rib and prongs being adapted to enter the inaterial and to cooperate with said side-plate in preventing the displacement of the device.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at said Spokane, this 27th day of February, A. D., 1909, in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses.
THEODORE IV. TUCKER.
