EGG-TESTER.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, EvELYn Luiss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bronxville, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Tester, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention is an improvement in egg testers and has in view a device of this character in which the eggs may be conveniently inspected at the outside of the usual eggtesting box.

To this end the invention in general consists of a box having egg-seating openings in the top and provided at the side with a door having a mirror on its inner tace, the door being hinged to swing downwardly and outwardlyT to a position to reflect the light passing through the openings.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a perspective view of an egg tester constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section ot the same substantially on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the tester.

The egg tester essentially consists of a box having one or more egg-seating openings G in the top and provided with a mirror 7 movable to a position at the outside of the box to reflect the light passing through the openings. I preferably construct the box of sheet metal, the body of which is made of a one-piece blank. The blank is bent upon itself to form outwardly-extending flanges 8 at each side of the top of the box, and 'from one of these flanges the blank is turned downwardly to form the upper` portion of one of the sides 9, the opposite side of the box being likewise formed from the blank but continuous in height and width with the bottom 10, the blank at the side edge of the bottom directly below the side 9 being turned inwardly to form a diagonal wall ll. rI`he end portions of the blank are integral with the bottom l0 and are flanged and turned upwardly into engagement with the sides and top.

The opening in the side of the box left below the side wall 9 is normally closed by a Specification of Letters Patent.v

A cover la, also of sheet metal, is inwardly turned at the opposite side edges to form ways l5 arranged to slidably receive the outwardlyprojecting flanges 8 of the box, the cover serving to close such egg-seating openings 6 in the top of the box as are not in use, thus excluding all light from the top except such as passes through the egg. The inner side of the side wall l() and the top of the box, as also the upper face of the wall ll, will ordinarily be blackened to absorb the light so that when the mirror is turned down to the inclined position shown in Fig. l, the uncovered openings in the top of the box will be plainly Visible in the mirror, making it unnecessary to look inside of the box in determining the condition of the eggs.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. In an egg tester, a box having an eggseating opening in the top and having a door at one side hinged at its lower edge to swing' outwardly, and a mirror carried on the inner face of the door, through which the said opening is observable when the door is opened.

2. In an egg tester, a box having eggseating openings in the top and provided with a door at one side hinged at its lower edge to swing outwardly, a wall in the box inclining downwardly toward the door, and a mirror arranged on the inner side of the door.

3. In an egg tester, a box having eggseating openings in the top, a door arranged at one side of the box hinged to swing downwardly and outwardly, and a mirror through which the openings are observable, removably held on the inner face of the door.

4. In an egg tester, a box having eggseating openings at the top and provided with a side portion extending from the top, a door hinged at its lower edge to swing downwardly and outwardly and closing an IOC In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
