Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
AUGUST H. STILLE, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
EGG-TESTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 422,991, dated March 11, 1890.
Application filed November 19 1889. Serial No. 330,902. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST H. STILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new andy useful Improvements in Egg-Testers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain features involved in the construction of an egg-testing device, the object of which is to provide a :ready and eiiicient means for candling eggs to` determine the condition of same. This result is secured by means of the device hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to `the accompanying drawings7 in which similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views.
` Figure l is a perspective View showing the lids open. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the shade reduced.
Proceeding now to describe in detail my invention, the body A consists, essentially, of a rectangular box separated `into two compartments by the transparent partition a. The compartment B to the right of said partition, as observed in the drawings, is reserved as a receptacle for a lamp or other means employed to provide a light, the lower and upper sides of which are suitably perforated, as is also the door b, for the purpose of' providing a suitable draft for the lamp. The top h' is also perforated for the same purpose. The compartment C to the left of compartment B, as shown in the drawings, has arranged on its front side an opening c, provided with a suitable lid that such opening may be closed when desired, while near the top of said compartment is arranged the horizontal partition D, in which is arranged a series of holes intended to receive the end of the egg, the number of such holes being varied at will. The lid E is of a proper size to cover the entire top of both compartments, and is for the purpose of properly protecting the top of the box when not in use. The box proper may be made of any preferred material; but if made of wood a lining of some suitable material should be used that eluded from the eggs, and they will be placed l practically in a dark chamber which receives light only through the eggs from the lamp.
In operation a lamp or other means of Apron viding a light is placed within the compartment B, andthe eggs to be tested are placed over the holes d d, when the operator by looking downward upon such eggs will be enabled to determine their condition by means of the light passing through the transparent partition a', as will be readily understood. The hole o, provided in the front side of compartment C, is for the purpose of properly examining the condition of the interior ot" said compartment. The horizontal partition D is to be made of cork or other soft material, that the eggs may not be broken when coming in contact with the same; or, if preferred, acollar or rings of suitable material maybe placed around the edges of the holes d d. (Not illustrated.)
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-V l. An egg-tester consisting of a body A, having the compartments B C separated by a transparent partition, the compartment C, having an opening c in its side, and the horizontal partition D in the upper end of the said compartment having a series of openings d, as set forth.
2. An egg-tester having the compartments B C, partitions ozy and D, cover E, and door b, as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST I-I. STILLE. Witnesses W. W. CoRLY, FRANK W. Woons.
