WILLIAM S. ARNOLD, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
CUFF-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1909.
Application filed August 4, 1908. Serial No. 446,846.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM S. ARNOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improved adjustable cuff holder, having combined therewith cuff buttons for the securing of a cuff thereto; the object being to provide a simple, inexpensive, and an attractive article for securing the cuff and attaching the same to the shirt of the wearer, the device being of such a character, as to be easily and quickly secured to and detached from the cult and the sleeve of a shirt.
To comprehend the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view, illustrating the application of the cuff holder and buttons. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the combined holder and buttons.
In the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a slotted extension plate, the slotted portion 2 of which terminates at the upper end of the plate 1 in an enlarged button openingas 3, through which is inserted the head and a portion of the shank of the button l, which secures the wrist sections of a sleeve 5. On the extension plate 1, is mounted for longitudinal movement, a slide 6, provided with an enlarged button openingas 7, which opening when the slide 6 is moved upwardly its full distance on the extension plate 1, registers with the button opening in the upper end of the said plate, and through the same is inserted the button A.
After the button t has been passed through the registering openings of the slide and extension plate 1, the slide 6 is moved downwardly so as to place the shank of the button A within the reduced slotted portion 2 of the plate 1, which, by reason of the head of the button l, being of a diameter greater than the width of the slotted portion 2 of the plate 1, holds the said extension plate united to the button at. The slide 6 is so arranged upon the plate 1 as to be frictionally held upon the latter in adjusted positions. I
The extension plate 1 is closed at its lower end and terminates in a cross-bar 7, to the ends of which are held the cuff buttons 8-S, which, preferably are arranged at an outward inclination. In the present case, the cross-bar 7, is connected to the upper edge of the button 8-8, the reason for this form of connection being to permit of the buttons being quickly and easily inserted within the button holes 9, of the cuff 9.
Inasmuch as the slide 6, is adjustable on the extension plate 1, it is obvious that the position of the cuff 9 may be regulated relative to the sleeve 10, in accordance with the wishes of the wearer thereof.
Preferably, the extension plate 1, and the buttons 88 are formed integral, being stamped from a single piece of metal.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent, is
l. A cuff holder comprising a plate having a longitudinal slot therein and a con necting enlarged opening, the enlarged opening adapted to loosely receive a button of the shirt sleeve and the slotted portion to engage beneath the button head, an adjusting member slidably mounted on the slotted portion of the plate, the adjusting member having an opening therein of a diameter greater than the width of the slot but approximately the size of the enlarged opening of said plate whereby said openings may register and the adjusting member with the engaged button adjusted along the slotted portion of the plate, and means carried by the end of the plate for engaging a cuff.
2. An article of the described character, the same comprising an extension plate, provided with a centrally slotted portion, which terminates in an enlarged button opening, a slide adjustably mounted on the extension plate and having a button opening registrable with the button opening of the said extension plate, and cuff-buttons, connected to the lower portion of the slotted extension plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
