Be it known that I, VILLARD L. DORP., a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of lVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in VVarp-F rames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a stretching plurality of points throughout the length of the clamp to give. a shifting movement thereto. i
Other objects and advantages as well as the novel details of construction of the inj vention will be specifically described hereinafter, it being understood that changes in form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevational vie-w of a-warp supporting frame to which my invention is applied. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same; and Fig.' 8 is an enlarged detailed perspective view of a portion of the shiftable clamp and mechanism for imparting movement thereto.
The warp supporting frame may comprise a plurality of yokes 1 connected by the longitudinally extending rods 2. At one side of the frame and carried by the respective yokes is a thread clamp, shown as comprising a channel iron 3 adapted to receive an insertion bar 1. Either the interior vof t-he channel iron, the exterior of the insert-ion bar, or both, may be provided with facings of rubber or other resilient material to insure clamping Contact with the portion of the thread to be clamped and the clamping will be accomplished by means of a bar 5 having a plurality of projections 6 on the faces of which may ride the projections 7 of the longitudinally shiftable bar S; whereby the insertion bar 4 willbe held against removal and will efficiently hold the threads. porting the warp frame on the bed of a machine so that the frame will be conveniently fed longitudinally through the medium of a suitable pinion in mesh with the rack 10.
On the side of the frame opposite to the clamp just described is a shiftable clamp herein shown as comprising a channel iron 11 having an insertion bar 12, and clamping bars 13 and 14 corresponding to the bars 5 and 8 on the opposite side of the frame. The shiftable clamp is provided with a plurality of outstanding projections 15 movable in slots 16 in the yokes 1. The project-ions 15 are provided at their bases with interlocking members 17 capable of interlocking with the ends of the yokes 1. The interlocking members 17 .may comprise dovetails, and, of course, the ends of the yokes 1 will be correspondingly formed to receive the dove-tails to make the sliding connections.
The outstanding projections 15 are shown as grooved as at 18 to receive the shifting members 19 illustrated as comprising eccentrics on the longitudinally extending shaft 20. The shaft 20 may be oscillated by a lever or handle 21, thus the eccentrics will be moved to shift the shiftable clamp either toward or away from the immovable clamp on the other side of the frame. IVhen the material lto be stretched is first placed on the frame, the movable clamp will be shifted toward the immovable clamp and caused to as- 1 sume a position similar to that shown in Fig.
2. After the material (for example a warp) is placed in the clamps, the shaft 20 may be oscillated by the lever 21 so as vto shift the shiftable clamp away from the immovable clamp, so as to stretch the threads or other material. The eccentrics are so positioned on tne shaft 20 that when the movable clamp is moved to stretching position, said eccentrics will be effective in holding the shiftahle clamp against accidental movement and there will be no danger of the shiftable clamp slipping back toward the immovable clamp, unless the lever 21 is operated. It is obvious that any means may be provided for holding the lever 21 rigid with respect to the frame after the movable clamp is shifted.
By reference to Fig. 1 it will be seen that I contemplate rotating the shifting devices, to wit, the eccentrics 19 ata plurality of points along the frame and I may employ as many or as fevv of these eccentrics as are necessary to perform the Work involved.
I will not specifically describe any articularv form of clamp, because the speci e form of clamp is not a part of the invention. I reserve the right to employ any form of clamp which will be suitable for the Work to be perv formed.
I claim as my invention: f
l. A Warp frame having an immovable clamp; and a movable clamp; an oscillatory shaft and eccentrics on said shaft and movable upon the movement of the oscillatory shaft to impart movement to the movable clamp.
2. A Warp frame having an immovable clamp; a movable clamp having slotted connections With said frame; a rock shaft; and means on said shaft Within the slots of said connections for imparting movement to the movable clamp upon a movement of said shaft.
3. The combination of means for supporting an immovable clamp and a movable clamp; the support for the movable clamp being provided With a slot; a projection carried by the movable clamp and extending Within said slot; and means Within said slot and engaging the projection to shift said movable clamp.
l. A frame comprising a plurality of yokes provided With slotted terminals; a movable clamp having projections extending Within said slotted terminals; and means Athe latter.
6. In a Warp frame, in combination, a plurality of yokes 'rigidly connected together in parallel relation; a clamp fixed to one arm of said yokes; a clamp slidably Connected to the other arm of said yokes; a rock shaft mounted in said yokes; and connections between said shaft and said slidable clamp for moving the latter When the shaft is rocked.
7. In a Warp frame, in combination, a pluralityY of yolres rigidly connected together in parallel relation; a clamp fixed to one arm of said yokes; a clamp having a slidable dovetail connectionvvith the ends of the other arms of said yokes,'said ends bein slotted; a rock shaft carried by the slottec ends of said yoke-arms eccentrics on said shaft Within the slots; and slotted members attached to said slidable clamp and extending into the slots in the yoke-arms and engaged by said eccentrics.
