A UNITED STATE PATENT OFFICE.
GILBERT P. KENEHAN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BELT-STRETCH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,060, dated June 28, 1892.
Application filed July 30, 1891. Serial No. 401,238. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, GILBERT P. KENEHAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to aclampingdevice for holding and drawing the abutting ends of driving-belts together While the said ends are being fastened; and it consists of the peculiar constructions and combinations, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view showing the clamp attached to the belt. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the clamp. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp.
A and B represent parts of two abutting,
ends of a belt.
O is a rod or bar supporting the clamps D D. The clamps are composed of bars having eyes (1 d, through which the rod 0 passes.
E is a right and left hand screw-rod playing in threaded holes in the said clamp-bars D. On the middle part of said screw-rod is provided a ratchet-pinion e and a pivoted lever F, having a pawl f, engaging with said pinion. The clamping ends of the bars D consist of slotted sleeves D in which are fixed rotative cam-pins G, having one side cut away to admit the belt to be inserted in the slots, and when turned will clamp or pinch the belt. 9 g are thumb-levers attached to the cam-pins to turn them with. The campins are held in the sleeves by short pins bearin g against the shoulders of the sleeves.
The uses of this device are obviously the holding of the edges of the belt and drawing the ends of the belt'together.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a belt-clamp, the bars D D, having sockets d d and movably placed on guide-bar O, right-and-left screw E, also playing through the clamp-bars D D and provided with a lever F and pawl and ratchet f e, and the bars D D, having slotted heads D D containing cam-pinsG G, provided with levers g g, all constructed and combined to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
GILBERT P. KENEHAN.
