LAURA A. FRAZEE, 0F BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY.
SANITARY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
Application filed May 28, 1909. Serial No. 498,903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAURA A. FRAZEE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bowling Green, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Drinking-Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sanitary drinking fountains, and one of the principal objects ofthe same is to provide a fountain comprising a trough to catch the waste water, and a jet pipe extending lengthwise of the trough and provided with a series of perforations through which jets of water are projected directly to the mouth of the drinker, thus obviating the necessity of a cup or drinking glass.
It has been found diiicult at schools, colleges and other institutions containing a `large number of persons to provide a sanitary fountain where a large number of persons may drink at the same time without the use of a large number of cups or glasses, and in many instances diseases have been communicated through the use of the same drinking vessel.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a fountain which will not require the use of a drinking vessel and will, therefore, be sanitary and which will at the same time permit a large number of persons to drink without interfering one with the other. This and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing which represents a perspective view of a drinking fountain made in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a trough or catch basin for the waste water. This trough may be of any desired length, dependent upon the number of persons to be accommodated by the fountain. The trough 1 is supported at its ends above the ground by means of end posts 2. A water supply pipe 3 extends up through the bottom of the trough l to a point above the top of the trough, and connected to the upper end of the supply pipe is a T-coupling 4:. Extending through the T-coupling is the fountain pipe 5 provided with end plugs 6,
and the ends of said pipe being supported in keepers 7 at the top of the posts 2. The pipe 5 is provided with a series of perforations 8 arranged at suitable distances apart, and said perforations being of a size to insure a projecting jet of water 9 when the water supply has been turned on by means of the key l0. The jet openings 8 in the fountain pipe may either be arranged immediately on top of the pipe, or the pipe may be slightly turned to one side. A discharge pipe l1 communicates with the trough at one end, and foot boards 12 may be placed at the sides of the fountain.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a fountain made in accordance with my invention is extremely useful in places where a large number of persons are to be accommodated with drinking water, and that the fountain may be either located out of doors or under cover. It will be understood that the persons drinking from the fountain will hold their mouths in contact with one of the jets of water and thus will not require a drinking vessel.
I claim l. A drinking fountain comprising an elongated trough supported at its ends upon posts, a water supply pipe extending through the trough, a perforated fountain pipe connected to the upper end of said water supply pipe, said fountain pipe being provided with end plugs and supported at its ends upon the tops of said posts, and a waste pipe communicating with said trough.
2. A drinking fountain comprising a trough, a water supply pipe extending through the trough, a fountain pipe connected to the upper end of the supply pipe above the top of the trough, end posts for supporting the trough and for supporting the ends ofthe fountain pipe, said fountain pipe being provided with a series of jet openings upon its upper side, and a waste pipe leading from the trough.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LAURA A. FRAZEE.
Witnesses WILLIE M. GARDNER, K. M. LARMoN.
