To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD J. COVERT,
a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in DrinkingCups; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in drinking cups, more especially in cups for fountains and its object is to provide a on adapted to be used in conjunction with the so-called bubbler drinking fountain, from which fountain water is discharged from an overflowing nozzle, and to provide a device that is easily and readily cleaned, and that is compact and portable. v
To drink from the ordinary bubbler fountain is inconvenient, because one is required to stoop over the same and bring the mouth close above the nozzle from which the water escapes. This device is intended to receive the water from the nozzle and convey the same in a cup from which one may con veniently drink as occasion may require.
My invention consists essentially of a cup from which to conveniently drink and provided with a conduit having a bottom opening to receive the water, and adapted to con vey the same upward and into the cup, said conduit being adapted to be opened and cleaned as occasion may require.
An embodiment of m invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a plan view of the same; Fig. 2 a side view of the same; Fig. 3 a vertical section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4. a perspective of the device, with the conduit opened.

1 represents a cup, preferably of metal and of any suitable size and shape, preferably as shown, and having a depression 2 in the rim thereof at one side to permit the Water to overflow from the conduit into the cup.

at is a hollow conduit extending from beneath. the bottom of the cup to opposite the depression 2, the margins of this conduit being fitted closely to the outer surface of the cup. The upper end of the conduit is provided with an inwardly turned flange 5 to direct the water into the cup and the bottom of the conduit beneath the axis of the cup is provided with an inlet opening 6. When this device is placed above a hubbler nozzle 9, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the water will flow through the opening 6 and upward in the conduit and thence inward over the depressed portion 2 of the margin, and thus the cup may be filled and used to drink therefrom. This conduit is preferably provided with an arm 7 pivoted at 8 to the outer end of the handle 3, whereby the conduit is supported in place in contact with the cup for use as described, and may be freely swung away from the cup whenever desirable ior cleaning or any like purpose.
vVhat I claim is 1 1. A drinking cup having an outside conduit attached thereto, said conduit having an opening beneath the cup adapted to receive water from a bubbling fountain, and a top opening to discharge water into the cup.
2. A drinking cup, having a depression in the rim, a conduit on the outside of the cup having a bottom opening adapted to receive water from a bubbling fountain, and an inwardly turned flange above said depression to direct the water into the cup.
3. A drinking cup, and a conduit on the outside of the cup pivoted to swing away from the same, said conduit having a bot tom opening beneath the cup adapted to receive water, and an inwardly turned flange at the top to direct the water into the cup.
at. A drinking cup, and a conduit formed by a hollow member having its margin fitting the outside of the cup, said conduit bemg movable away from the cup and provided with an opening at the bottom, and an inwardly turned flange at the top.
5. A drinking cup, having a depression in the rim, a handle on the cup, a hollow conduit having its margin fitting close to the outside of the cup and extending beneath the same, an opening in the bottom of the conduit, an inwardly projecting flange on the same above the said depression, and an arm on the conduit pivoted to the handle.
