FRANCES I. HERVEY, OF BRENHAM, TEXAS.
EGG -HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,049, dated December 9, 1884.
Application filed July 9, 1894. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCES P. HERVEY, of Brenham, Vashington county, Texas, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for holding eggs of different sizes firmly and securely, and which can also be used for taking eggs out of boiling water.
The invention consists of the combination of parts and their construction, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
Large, small, or medium sized eggs can be held securely between the sections.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im- Fig. 2 is a sectional plan viewof the same on the line 00 m, Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 7 3/, Fig. 1.
The holder is formed of two hollow semiellipsoidal sections, A, made of sheet metal, cast metal, wire, glass, or any other suitable material. On the lower part of each section A a stem, B, is formed, which terminates in two outwardly-curved legs, 0, of any desired suitable shape or design. The stems B are pivoted to each other a short distance below their upper ends, and between the lower ends of the stems a spiral spring, I), or some other suitable spring, is interposed, which presses the lower ends of the stems apart, thus pressing the edges of the sections A together.
The sections A may have their top edges prongcd to give them more elasticity and make them more yielding, or the sections may be ornamented in any suitable manner. By pressing the two pairs of legs together the sections A are separated, and an egg, either large, medium, or small, is placed between the sections, and when the legs are released the spring D presses the section A against the egg, which is thus held securely, and can be opened and spooned out without requiring its being held by means of the fingers. The holder can also be used for taking eggs from boiling water.
Besides being useful, the holder is very ornamental.
I do not wish to limit myself to any special construction or design of the legs, sections, 820., but may change them as circumstances may require.
The egg-holder may be provided with two cups for receiving salt and pepper, and with a spoonrack; or two or more egg-holding cups can be united with one pair of legs.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In an egg-holder, the combination, with two hollow semi-ellipsoidal sections having stems and legs, which stems are hinged together, of a spring for pressing the sections together, substantially as herein shown and described.
7 In an eggholder, the combination, with two hollow semi-ellipsoidal sections A, having downwardly projecting stems B, terminating in legs 0, the stems'B being pivoted to each other, of the spring D, interposed between the lower ends of the stems, substantially as herein shown and described.
FRANCES P. HERVEY. \Vitnesses: R. L. CLEMONS, O. A. Bo'r'rs.
