Specification of Letters latent.
iatent ed (Pct. 5', i909.
Application filed December 26,`1908. Serial No. 469,487.
'i vented certain neu7 and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofl the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same.
The invention to be hereinafter described Irelates to detachable heels or heel sections for boots, shoes, and the like.
It is designed for the purpose of remorably securing a heel section of any desired construction' to the upper lifts of the ordinary boot or shoe heel in such manner that.A the attached section may be replaced when worn out, or when a change is desired, and when in position will be securely connected to the upper lifts.
Broadly speaking, the invention comprises a heel section, having embedded therein a plate, on which are formed lugs, a similar plate adapted to be secured to an upper lift of the heelproper and provided with lugs,
fand a locking pin adapted to pass through the lugs of the Vtivo plates to thereby detachably lock the lower heel section and the upper lifts ofthe heel together.
In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation and application of the invention, reference should be had to the `acoompanying drawings forming part of the present application..
In the several gures, the saine reference characters designate the same parts throughout. .i
In the drawings; Figure l is a vertical central longitudinal section through a heel n as attached, showing a preferred form of the invention; F ig. 2 is a top plan' view of the plates in Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a front view of the same plates, with the fastening pin in position; Fig. t is an end view of the bottom plate of Fig. l; F ig. 5 is a similar view of the top plate of Fig. l; and Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the locking pin.
In the preferred form, 5 he detachable section l isof rubber or other suitable material,
which may be molded to a desired shape.,
This section is recessed (entrally .as at 2Q to provide space for the fastening parts, and has embedded in its body z perforated plate Il, on which is formed upvardly extending lugs l2, which project thrc ugh the material of the section and into the fecess 2. A seel ond plate 5 is secured, byintegrally formed spurs or other attaching me ins, to the upper lift of the heel, and has lownvvardly eX- tending lugs l2 formed thereon, which are adapted, when the lower section-is positioned, tollie adjacent the lugs l2 ol the lower plate. lli.y order to lock the upper and lower plates, a n i consequently the detaclrible heel section and the upper lifts together, a pin 7 is adapted for insertion through theI lugs l2 of the upper and lower plates. The lugs 19. of the upper and lower plates are provided with key hole slots 13 adapted to be brought into alinement for the passage of a tapered projection 14ton the pin 7. I'Vhemthis projection is passed through all ofjthe key hole slots, the pin may be turned to' securely lock the plates together.
Having thus fully described my invention,
provided with ears having keyhole openings,A
a lower plate adapted to be attached to a removable heel and provided with ears having keyhole openings and Vadapted to be alined with the ears of the upper plate, and a key or pin provided with a projection adapted to be passed through the keyhole openings and turned to lock the parts together.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
