Description

l H Hlm HER, WASHINGTON D C linitml me-5 @sind dimite.
Letters Patent No. 93,550, dated August 10, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN 'YCHURNS The` Schedule referred to in these' Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To -all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. NELSON, of Lewisburg, in the county of Greenbrier, and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ghurns; and I do hereby declare that the following is av full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters, that form a partY of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved churn-power, and
Figure 2, aplan view of the same.
Similar letters indicate like parts in both figures.
My invention relates to improvements in churnpowers; and to this end, Y
It consistsv in securing the balance-wheel on the opl '-posite side of the bench ii'om the lever, thereby lessening the friction.
It further consists in the employment of a vmovable crank .on the shaft-end, whereby any desired stroke may be obtained. Y
` f '.lo enable'others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing- A represents the bench.
a a., the legs ,of the same. b b represent boxes, secured on the upper side of the bench A. In these boxes works the shaft B, which is provided, at one end, with the balance-wheel 0, said' wheel being provided with an arm, d, for operating the machine.
0n the other end of the shaft. B is lattached the crank D, provided with three or more holes, e e, for
the pnrposeof regulating the stroke. The lower arm of this crank works into the slot-ted end of the lever` G,`whicl1 is pivoted at its rear end to the pin or projection g, formed on't-he vside of the bench.
7i, is aspring, one end of which is secured to' thelever YGr, and the other end bent, as seen in tig, 2, andv passed through a hole in the centre of the lever. n is a metal band, into which the dasher is passed,
, and is retained in place by means of the spring hy passing through the dasher and the band.
Having thus described myinvention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-. v
f'lhe combination of the balance-wheel G, shaft B,
` adj ust-able crank D, slotted lever G, and spring h, with the bench A, all arranged to. operato substantially as herein shown and described. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I alix my Signat-ure, in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES L. NELSON.
