My present invention is ni most respects similar to that for which I obtained Letters Patent of the United States, on the 25th day of May, 1869, the same consisting of a box of any suitable construction, provided with one or more internal diaphragms, adapted to hold the pins in -sueh a manner that .on removing the cover 'of the box, the heads of the pins will be presented in convenient position for being-taken hold of and withdrawn. j

My present improvement' consists in providing the box or case with` a false or movable bottom,'on which, when it is elevated, the points of the pins may rest, with one-0r more supports attached to the movable bottom, and projecting down through the `fixed or proper bottom of the case, so that when the latter is set down on a table, the movable bottom will be caused to slide upward a short distance within the box, elevating the. pins, and adapting them'to be more easily withdrawn.

In the accompanying drawingst v Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of my improved pin-case, as it appears when resting on the table.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional' view of the same,

- with the cover removed, showing the movable bottom,

and the'pins in the position which they assume when the case is heldtin the hand.

Figure 3 represents avertical section of --the same, as set upon a table, showing the pins elevated, and representing, also,an external disk applied beneath the bottom, as hereinafter described.

Figure 4 is a similar section, showing the cover in position, and illustrating a modification of the invention.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The box B, cover C, andl the vdiaphragm D, for holding the pins P P P, may be made in the way described in my patent of May 25; 1869, or in any other convenient manner; but in my present improvement, the bottom B of the box is perforated with one or more apertures, to receive as many bosses or studs E, which project downward from a sliding or false bottom, F, which, when resting down on the stationary bottom -B, permits the points-of the pins to hang free, but

When the box is set upon a table, will elevate the pins, and cause their heads to project to a sufficient dis@ tance above the diaphragm, to permitV them to be conveniently withdrawn. j

To aiord a better external iinish',`and a better snpport to the box, the projecting stud E, may be attached, to a disk, G, beneath the bottom B', as shown in figs. 3 and4. vThis is especially desirable when a plurality of studs is employed, as represented in fig.4.

My present improvement adds much to the sightliness of the oontrivance, for the following reasons:

If the pins are set loosely in a perforated diaphragm, with their points resting on a stationary bottom, it is difficult or impossible to preserve any uniformity or order in their arrangement; but with my present im provemcnt, the pins assume an orderly arrangementl by gravity, whenever the box is lifted from the table and the false bottom is allowed todrop, and when again set upon the table, the sliding 'bottom being raised in a direct line, will raise the pins in the same uniform position.

As the article is intended to be one of ornament las L well as use for the toilet-table, the improvement now introduced is important;
