Description
4 ranma @ema @anni @twine Letters Patent No. 91,810, dated .Tune 2.2, 1869.
IMIPRGVEMBNT IN COMBINED DRAWERePULL AND LABEL.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pan: of the lame.
To all whom 'it lma/y concern Be it known that I, JEREMIAH QUINLAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in a Combined Drawer-Pull and Label; and I do hereby-declare that the following is a full, clear, andexact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings of the same, which make part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 represents an elevation of the front of my combined drawer-pull and label, the label being removed;
Figure 2 represents a similarview, the label being in its place;
Figure 3 represents an elevation of the rear side and Figure 4 represents a vertical cross-section.
I am aware that a drawer-pull and label combined in one plate is not new, and, therefore, do not claim broadly such an invention.
But my improvements consist in a drawer-pull and label having an opening to receive the label, supporting and enclosingit bythe `same ears by which the pull is secured to the drawer, a bead to sustain it vertically, and an arched boss, having aholding-lip, all cast ln one piece, as will be'hereinafter described. Also in locating and arranging the holding-ears at the back of and within the opening for the label, for the threefold purpose of securing the pull in place, forming back and end supports for the label, and to aord facility for its removal and substitution by another and dii'erent label.
` In the accompanying drawings- The label-plate A and pull B are cast in one piece, of any desired form.
An opening, C, is made in the plate A, to receive p the label, and at the base of lthe plate is the pull B, of semi-elliptical or arched form, to receive the lingers in pulling out the drawer.
The innen side of" thisv elliptical boss B is concave, and provided with a flan-ge or lip, a, at its lower inner edge, for the purpose of forming a hold for the fingers, and thus protecting the finger-nails from being broken off, which would most likely occur, if the drawer should bind.
From either end of the opening 0, ears, E, project l i toward each other, so as to extend wthju said opening, and are fitted with holes, b, through which the screws pass, to secure the plate tothe drawer.
A suiiicient space is left between the inner face of these ears E and the rear face of the Vplate A, to re'` ceive the label I); and the ears, therefore, while they serve as anges by which the plate is screwed in place, also form the back supports for the label, thus dispensing with a closed back for the label-opening. These ears also form the end or lateral supports for the label, and by their arrangement at the back of` the opening C, constitute a case for enclosing and supportingV the label,and allowing it to be removed whenever desired, and replaced by another and different label.
The vertical support for thelabel is formed by the' beads F, ou the inner side ofthe plate, at the base of the opening. The label is slid in from the top of the plate, and is encased between it and the securing'ears,
`and supported vertically by the beads F, so that it can be readily removed and changed.
The label may be made of glass, porcelain, or other suitable material, upon which the. name of the substance orarticle contained within the drawer oncompartment, may be painted, printed, or cast.
The pull is attached to the drawer by scrcws which mustbe inserted into the ears through the opening O, and before the label is placed therein; and the pull may be, easily removed by raising up and removing i arranged, and cast in one piece, substantially as before described.
J EREMIAH QUlNLAN.
