c. G. KROOK LICENSE CARD HOLDER Filed Feb. 5, 1958 ""I l L INVENTOR. CARL G. h oofr ATTORNEY.
IQ FF CE Carl G. Krook, Kingman, Ariz.
Application February 5, 1938, Serial No. 188,855
Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in a holder for automobile license cards and the like.
Motorists in many States are required to carry their license cards exposed and readily available 5 in their cars and, in some States, drivers license cards or other forms of permits also must be carried. In crossing State lines or on other occasions, oificers may require a motorist to show his cards.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel holder for such cards, that may permanently be fastened within the car to hold and display the cards.
Another object is the provision of a holder for this purpose that has an easily detachable cardholding slide, for ready removal of the cards for inspection.
Other objects and advantages reside in novel details of design and construction and include means for easy insertion and removal of the cards from the slide. The novel features of the invention will be disclosed more fully in the following description and in the drawing, wherein like parts have been similarly designed and in which;
Figure 1 is a plan view of a card holder made according to the present invention;
Figure 2 is an edge elevation of the same looking in the directionof arrow 2, of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view along line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a plan view showing the removable slide in an operative position.
In the drawing, reference character 5 denotes a supporting or backing plate, preferably made of sheet metal or the like and provided with suitable screw holes 6, to facilitate its permanent attachment to the interior of an automobile or a truck cab. Along opposite edges of the plate, are inturned. flanges 1' to provide stationary guides for a removable slide 8 that has an inturned flange 9, opposite thereto, another inturned flange l0, and a central cut-out fingeropening I2. A transparent sheet I3 is fitted in the slide between the inturned flanges 9 and I0 45 thereof. License cards and the like may be inserted inplace in the slide 8 between the back 8a. thereof and the transparent-sheet l3. The cut:- out I! permits a user to readily move the cards in and out of place. The slide element is preferably made of sheet metal or the like similar to the material of the support or back member 5.
The normal position of the holder is as shown in Figure l, with the flange 9 of the slide lowermost while the opposite flange ill of the same is spaced suiliciently to embrace, besides the cards and the transparent sheet l3, the inturned guide flanges I, on which the slide element hangs for its support.
The normally lower flange 9 is reduced in length to freely fit between the upright guide 5 flanges 1 of the back member 5. The lower edge of the back 8a of the slide is bent slightly forward at each end of the inturned shortened flange 9, as shown at I 4.
These forwardly-bent edges bear against the inner surfaces of the guide flanges 'l to effect a free and easy movement of the slide and to provide a space between the flanges l and the back 8a of the slide for the reception of the transparent sheet'l3 and the license cards, when the slide is in its normal place in the holder.
Thus a permanent license card holder is provided that has means to display the cards and a removable card-holding slide which provides for ready removal of the cards for inspection, with a minimum of inconvenience and loss of time. The holder may preferably be attached to the inner panel of the left front door of a car, by means of suitable screws, in which location it is readily accessible to the driver. 25
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a body-member having means for its attachment upon a supporting surface, and having opposed flanges providing parallel guide-Ways for a vertically movable card-holding member, and a card-holding member slidable in said guide-ways and having flanges at right angles to the flanges of the body member, said flanges being opposed to secure a license-card or the like, placed between them, and the uppermost flange engaging with the flanges of the body-member to suspend the holding-member in its normal position from the body-member.
2. A device of the character described comprising a support having inturned vertical guideflanges, and a card-holder removably fitted between the guide-flanges and having an inturned flange normally overlapping the upper ends of the guide-flanges for support of the holder and an opposite inturned flange adapted to slide between the guide-flanges.
3. A device of the character described comprising a support having inturned guide flanges, and a card holder removably fitted between the guide flanges and having edge portions bent to extend slightly forward and bear against the turned under surfaces thereof.
4. A device of the character described comprising a body-member having means for its attachment upon a supporting surface, and having opposed flanges providing parallel guide-ways for a vertically movable card-holding member, and a card-holding member slidable in said guideways and having flanges at right angles to the flanges of the body-member, said flanges being opposed to secure a license-card or the like, placed between them, and the uppermost flange engaging with the flanges of the body-member in overlapping relation thereto to suspend the holding-member in its normal position from the bodymember.
5. A device of the character described comprising a body-member having means for its attachment upon. a supporting surface, and. having opposed flanges providing parallel guide-ways for a vertically movable card-holding member, a cardholding member slidable in said guide-ways and having flanges at right angles to the flanges of the body-member, said flanges being opposed to secure a license-card or the like, placed between them, and the uppermost flange engaging with the flanges of the body-member to suspend the holding-member in its normal position from the body-member, and a license card removably held in and by the flanges of the holding-mem ber.-
