Be it known that I, Lesson C. Annals, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, inthe county of Montgomeryand State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cement FencePosts; and I do declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the ing drawings, andv to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. f
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cement fence posts.
The object of the invention is to provide a cement fence post which contains means for fastening the horizontal rails of fence i-n the manner hereinafter described, so that the life of the post may be prolonged indelinitely by the removal of the part or parts therefrom to which the horizontal rails or wires of the fence are directly attached.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a cement ost with a maximum strength, so that the lia ility of breakage is small.
Preceding e detailed description of the invention, reference is made to the aecompanying drawings, of which- Figure l, is an elevation of a corner fence post inode in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal vertical section through the post. Fig. 3, is a view similar to Fig. l et the fence post with slight modi: tications. Fig. Il, is a cross sectional 'View of Fig. l at any point above the ground. Fig. 5, a similar viev.7 to Fig.
ln'a detail description of the invention,
similar reference characters indicate cor-y responding parts.
post l whether it be a corner post as in Fig. l or an intermediate post as in Fig'. 3, are thatit shall have a plurality of flat sides tapering from the ground end upwardly and that these sides shall be provided with upwardly and inwardly tapering dovetail grooves 2, the portions of which lying above the ground line being filled by matching wood panels 3 which constitute a core or cores in the casting or foiination'ot the post. The post of course molded or formed in a suitable mold and the sinface grooves essentially entend from. the lower extremity or .ond et' the to within suitable distance from the-top olf the post as indicated at el. The' Wood panels which are used cores in producing the grooves or channels 2 are made in two'sections, the ripper 1' tion 3' of vhieh is permitted to reiner-n in side or sides of the post.l while the lewe section are removed :troni the gro the post in order to leave the channels open from the bottoni of: or panels B kto the lower end This is necessary to enable the p els 3 to be separated troni pe out should they hecoine unser new anels inserted; the removal panes and the 'insertion oit the new ones taking place through the `@ground end the post. The grooves or channels as heitere stated, terminate a distance from the upper end of the post and tlierflcy prevent nioismre or water in' case oi from entering the upper end of the groove or grooves. lt will he readily understood that in the event the wood panels 3 rot or disintegrate to any appreciable extent.. Athey may he e shy removed 4from the post and new ones tion of the earth being remo lower end of the grooved side order to gain access to the grec nels.
The post is strengthened hy inelosing` witi pproxin oth The horiaonial fence i. ts i0 may Sie at. tacned to the wood panels 3 in any suitable manner; Ordinar"Y staples S are a sinipleond eiiicient means, the same being driven over the wire and into'the panels. lt will also 1oe observed that a wood railing fence may be likewise secured to the panels loy nailing or screwing the horizontal fence rails 7 to said panels before the vertical pane-ls 8 have been secured to said horizontal rails. illiiere 'the fence structure is notnnnsually heavy, the horizontal. wires or fence rails may oe at tached directly to the embedded panels strips Where tence strnctnre rendered heavy oy the application ci ded ver 'tical panels .8 secured. to
v channels below the ground.
tiene@ rails 7, en, additional face board 5 Conforming to the shape of tlie post may be attached to the embedded strr Sby screwing or nailing itthereto as in Pige 3 and 5.
This facellooard 5- extends from the ground to *die top of the pos@ and does not interfere with the open portion of the grooves or l? A cement fence posi; having en upwardly loving described my invention, l claim:
and inwardly tapered groove in a siolev post, and :51. correspondingly tapered face panel inserted 1n said groove and occupymg said groove from he upper `errninel thereof i to the ground line of the post, seid panel loeing maintained within the groove by the Wedging Contact between the longitudinal edges of the panelv and the corresponding edges of the groove.
In testimony whereof l allix my signature, in presence of 'two witnesses.
