UNIT SATES T FFI HERBERT P. MORRIS, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
POST-CARD ALB-UM.
Specification To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT P. Monnis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Post-Card Albums, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to card holders such as albums, and relates more particularly to fastenings arranged on the leaves of the album so as to hold the cards in place in such a manner that they can be conveniently inserted or removed without danger of tearing the leaves or breaking the cards.
The invention has for one of its objects to improve and simplify the construction of de vices of this character so as to be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use, and readily applied.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a card holder or fastener which consists of a pair of spring clips preferably formed of a single strip of metal that is inserted through a slot in the leaf or other sheet to which cards are to be attached, the clips being located on opposite sides of the leaf or sheet so that it will serve as a holder for two cards.
With these objects in view and others, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a card album showing the same open to illustrate the manner of applying the cards. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view through one of the fasteners showing the cards in place. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the leaves with a fastener thereon.
Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the views.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the improved fastening which is preferably constructed from a strip of sheet metal of suitable length and formed into a pair of clips 1 and 2 arranged at opposite sides of fLettersPatent- Patented Sept. 14, 19%9.
a1, 1908. Serial 110,470,200.
the sheet or leaf 3 to which the fastening is secured. Each clip comprises a base plate and a spring grip piece or jaw 5 disposed over the base plate and parallel therewith and united with the same by a connecting portion 6. The base plates 4; have their corresponding ends united by a connecting portion 7 which passes through a slot 8 in the sheet or leaf 3. The sheet metal is of very thin gage so that the clips will be of a minimum thickness, the clip being somewhat exaggerated in Figs. 2 and 3. The base plates l of the clips are compressed toward each other so as to firmly grip the sheet 3, so that the clips will not be readily torn out.
In Fig. 1, the leaves 3 are equipped with the fastenings 5, and these are arranged in pairs in such a manner that each card B can be held in place by two fastenings which are adapted to engage two right-angularly disposed contiguous corners. In this manner, the cards can be readily placed in position or removed without tearing the pages or breaking the corners of the cards. The
the cards can be readily inserted under them, and owing to the resiliency of the jaws, they will tightly grip the cards.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. In combination with a leaf having a slit, a pair of clips arranged one upon each side of the leaf and formed of a fiat sheet metal strip passed through the slit of the leaf and folded upon itself to provide clamp members between which the leaf is gripped, and having each clamp member bent upon itself to provide the clips.
2. In combination with a leaf having slits jaws 5 of the fastening are resilient so that arranged relatively at a right angle to one In testimony whereof I aflix mysignature another, pairs of clips arranged upon oppoin presence of two Witnesses. site sides of the leaf, each pair of clips eonv r sisting of a fiat strip of sheet metal passed ILLRBERT MORRIS through a slit of the leaf and doubled upon Htnesses: itself to form clamp members folded upon PERCY G. CARTER,
themselves to provide the clips. GEORGE A. TI-IORPE.
