SARAH HANNAH BURKET, or FINDLAY, OHIO.
- Gums coiviiama'rion-sorr. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH. HANNAH BURKET, citizen of the United States, residing at Findlay, in the countyv of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Girls Combination-Suits, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to wearing apparel and more particularly to a combination .gar-
inen't especially designed to be worn by little girls and other children when playing in the a union suit that may be readily ut on or taken off by a, child without the asslstance-of -a-nurse,-parent,1or other attendant.
Further objects and advantages will appear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in form,
proportions, and minor details of construc-- tion may be resorted to within'fthe scope of the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and i The improved combination suit forming.-
accompanying drawings, in which:-
Figure 1-is a perspective view of a combinationugaiment constructed in accordance With my invention, showing the same in position on a child; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal,
sectional View of the rear portion of the gar:
.ment atthe waist line thereof, showing the skirt and waist fastened; Fig. 3 is a similar detaillongitudinal sectional view taken at the right of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a-perspective View of the rear portion of the garment, the skirt being shown in elevated position and the rear sections of the waist unbuttoned in order to more clearly show the several parts.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views ofthe drawings by the same reference characters,
the subject matterof the present invention comprises a waist 5, having a yoke 6 secured thereto and provided with sleeves 7-terminat-- Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed mam, i909. Seria1,No.485,179.,

or wrinkles in the. garment.

ing in ends 8, there being a collar 9 secured tothe yoke of the garment and preferably formed in two sections, as shown. The forward portion of the waist 5 is extended to produce the front portionof the bloomers 10,
the real-"portion of'the bloomers bein separated from the front portion th'ereo so as to permit the same to be folded downwardly,
said rearor severedportion of the bloomers being provided at itsupper edge with a series of spaced button-holes 11. I
Surrounding the garment at the waist line thereof is a skirt 12 which forms a housing or cover for the bloomers, thisf'sk'irt beilj stitched or otherwise secured to the fabric constituting thewaist, as. shown. The rear,
portion of the skirt is spaced upwardly from thelower edge of the rear sections 13 ofthe waist so that said lower edge will form awaist band 14 having one or more buttons 15 sewed thereon and which engage the l utton= holes 11 for the purpose of retainingthe movable rear section of the bloomers in posi- One of the rear'sections 13 of the waist .is provided with a series of-button-ho1es'16 which receive buttons or similar fastening devices 17 carried by the adjacent waist sec tion, the rear portion of the skirt 12 being split vertically and also provided with buttons or similar fastening devices 18, whereby the skirt may be closed at theback and thus entirely house the bloomers.
Attention is here called to the fact-that the buttons and button-holes on the skirt 12 are arranged in vertical alinement with the buttons and button-holes on the waist sections13 thus providing a garment which 'buttons down the back and which may be readily put'on'and taken off bya small child without the assistance of a nurse, parent,
or other attendant. .It will also be noted,
that one, end of the waist band let is out or severed at 19 to produce a flap or tab 20 arranged to extend or project under the adjacent edge ofthe waist band at the rear thereof when the garment is buttoned so as to permit the edges of the skirtand sections 13. to overlap withoutforming any crimps This tab .or extension '20 by overlapping engagement with the'adjacent end of the waist band,
formsin effect a closure to prevent gaping or spreading of said waist band where the garment buttons down the back.
The legs of the bloomers are formed with annular pockets in which are seated elastic strips 21 constituting garters, the cloth 'orfabric around the elastic bands being gathi "'ered so as'to allow .the garment to fit snugly arnund the limbsof the child.-
-Secured tothegarment'at the waist line thereof is a belt 22 preferably formed in sections and having its ends extended across the front of the skirt and-secured together lovby a button or similar fastening device 23. Thus it will be seen that by releasing the Qmovable sections of the waist, the child may readily insert its feet through the legs of the bloomers so as to permit the garment to 1 be readily positioned on the child, said gar- 1nent being retained in properposition by means of the buttons or fastening devices 17 andlB. T The garment may be madein different 2 'sizes and shapes to accommodate children of differentages, and in making the garment it .is preferred to make the body thereof of one, material and the collar, cuffs, and belt of another material so as to give a pleasing 2 effect. c
Having thus described niyinvention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A combination garment arranged to spaced from the lower edges of the rear sec.-
waist having back sections secured thereto 40 and provided with interengaging fastenin devices, bloomers secured to the waist an having the front thereof formed by an integral continuation of the front portion of said waist, and a skirt forming a covering for the bloomers and provided with a fastening device arranged in vertical alinement with the fasteningdevices of the rear waist sections, the upper edge of the skirt being spaced from the lower edge of the waist at the rear of the garment to form a waist band for engagement with the rear of the bloomers. 7 I
3. A combination garment including a front waist section having rear waist' sections secured thereto and provided with inter-engaging fastening devices bloomers forming a part of the garment, snare secured to the waist and having its upper edge tions to form a waist band, the front portion of the waist being extended longitudinally beyond the waist band to produce the front of the bloomers and the rear of the bloomers being provided with spaced button-holes arranged to engage buttons carried by the waist band, one end of the waist band being cut away to produce a reduced longitudinally disposed flap arranged to overlap the adjacentend of the waist band at the rear of one of the buttons'thereon when the-garment is in position on aperson.
- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
