W. E. CARTLIDGE. COMBINED PLOW AND HARROW. APPLIOATION FILED men, 1908.

WILLIAM E. GAR 'ILIDGE, 0F McDONALDS MILLS, MISSISSIPPI.
comsrmrn PLOW AND naanow.
- Specification oi L'etters Patent.
Application filed August 3, 1908. Serial No. 446,760.
To all whom it mo concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. CART- LIDGE, a citizen of the United Sgtates, residing at McDonalds Mills, in the county of Perry and State of Mississippi, have -,in-
vented certain new and useful Improve,
ments in Combined Flows and Harrows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in a combined plow "and side harrow, and the object is to provide a harrow to one side of the beanr of a plow whereby the soil is plowed and at the same time is harrowed.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings F igure 1 is a view in side elevation; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
A represents the beam of the plow, and 1 represents the plow. I
B- represents the U- haped bracket, having the ends thereof bent at right angles for securing the bracket to the plow beam. A harrow tooth 3 is secured to the bracket at one end by a Z-shaped plate C, the Harrow tooth 3, being held between the bracket and plate by means of bolts 4, 4;. A curved brace 5 is secured at one end of the beam A and the other end extends outwardly from the beam nearly twice the distance ofthe bracket 13. Secured at the outer end of the brace and between the brace and one end of the Z shaped plate C is a harrow tooth 6, which tooth is held between the plate and brace by means of bolts 7, 7. The tooth 6 is in advance of the tooth 3 and at a greater distance from the beam than the tooth 3.
By connecting the teeth 6 and 3 to the bracket and brace and plate by means of bolts,-they are ca able of being adjusted to the height desire in operation, and if desired, they can be placed upon the opposite side of the beam and used to the same advantage, it only being necessary to remove the bracket B and the brace 5 from the beam and securing them to the opposite side. Of
course the teeth '6 and 3 would have to be removed from one side of the beam to the other, but this can be easily accomplished and the burrow will operate as well on one side of the beam as the other.
It will be seen from the foregoing that I n have provided a combined plow and harrow, the harr'ow attachment which can be applied to either side of the beam of a plow when it is desired to be used, and which can be removed at the will of the operator, and theteeth are capable of adjustment for the difierent kinds of work desired.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but 1- Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a combined plow and barrow, the combination with aplow beam, of a plow connected to the beam, a bracket connected to the beam, a brace extending from the beam for a greater distance than the bracket, a plate connecting the bracket and brace, harrow teeth held between the bracket and plate and plate and brace, and bolts adapted to pass through the plate and bracket and plate and brace on either side of the teeth whereby the teeth are securely held in position and may be adjusted.
2. In a combined plow and barrow, the combination with a plow beam, of a plow connected to the beam, a bracket connected to the 'beam, a brace extending from the beam for a greater distance than the bracket, a plate connecting ,the bracket and brace, harrow teeth held between the bracket and plate and the plate and brace to one side and in advance of the plow, and one of said harrow teeth to one side and in advance of the other harrow teeth.
3. In a combined plow and harrow, the combination with a'plow beam, of a plow connected to the beam in alinement therewith, a U-shapedbracket connected to the Patented Aug. 31, 1909.
beam a brace extending from the beam for a greater distance than the bracket, an approximately Z-shaped plate connecting the l'n'acket and brace, barrow teeth held between the bracket and plate and the plate and brace to one side andhn advance of the plow and bolts extending through the ends of the bracket and plate and the plate and brace for holding the harrow teeth in position. 10
In testimony whereef I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
W. CARTLIDGE.
