FFIGE.
PATENT MICHAEL D. VALSH, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
IMPRVMENT' IN FLOWS.
l Specifica lon forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,207, dated April 28, 1874; application filed October 3, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.'
Beit known that I, MICHAEL DIXON WALsn, oi' Richmond, in the county of Henrico and in the State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature oi' my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the standard and land-side of a plow, with the mode of connecting the standard and plow-beam, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I Will now proceed to de scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a plow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation oi' the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view, showing the connection betweenthe standard and plow-beam; and Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section through the plowbeam, standard, and land-side.
A represents the plow-beam5 B, the stand-v ard; O, the mold-board; D, the land-side, and E the point or share. G is the clevis attached to the front end of the plow-beam, and H H are the handles. The standard B is formed of a plate suitablyT curved at its front edge, and provided with a iiange, a, to which the moldboard C is bolted. The land-side D is bolted along the lower edge of the plate B, they being joined together with shoulders x, as shown in Fig. 4. The standard or plate B has, at its upper end or edge, an extension, b, projecting horizontally toward the mold-board side, and from the end of this extension b a piece, L', extends vertically upward, the whole' forming a knee made in one piece with the standard. Upon this knee the plow-beam A rests and is secured by clamp or staple d, one end of which passes through the horizontal part b, and the other end over the beam through the end of the vertical part b', and nuts e e screwed 011 the ends securely fasten the beam to the knee.
By this construction the operator can see from the handle on the left-hand side without.
any obstruction, the left side of the beam be-. ing on a line with the standard and land-side.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The standard B, having the L-shaped knee b b formed upon its upper front portion, on and against which the beam A is clamped by the angular screw-rod d, the rear end of said beam resting upon the rear top portion of said standard, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto setmy hand this 11th day of September, 1873.
MICHAEL DIXON WALSH.
