JAMES E. GREATHOVSE, OF,MABANK, TEXAS.
CENTER FOOT FOR CULTIVA'TORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,405, dated May 21, 1901.
g Application filed January 14:, 1901. Serial No. 43,218. \.l\lo modem To all whom it mctyconcern:
Beit known that I, J AMES E. GREATHOUSE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mabank, in the county of Kaufman and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Center Foot for Oultivators, of'which the following is a specification.
My inventionis an im proved center foot or standard for a cultivator, the object of my invention being to provide an improved center foot or standard which is adapted to be readily attached to and detached from a beam or beams ot' a cultivator adj usted thereon and adapted for the attachment of a shovel, plow, or sweep of any kind required.
My invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereameter, bent at the center, as at 1, to form the upwardly-di verging arms 2. The central lower end of the foot or standard is curved forward, as shown, and disposed at a suitable angle to form a rest against which the rear side 0i' the cultivator, shovel, plow, or sweep bears and. to dispose vsaid cultivator, shovel, plow, or sweep at the requisite inclination. cular in form, as shown, to form a longitudinal slot 3, the arms 2 being secured together at a suitable distance above the lower curved central portion l by a cross-bar 4, which is welded thereto and closes the upper end of the slot 3. The upper portions of the arms 2 are parallel to each other, and when the center foot or standardis in operative position the said upper portions 5 of the arms thereof are vertical. Each of the said arms 2 is provided With a collar 6, adjustable thereon and provided with a set-screw 7.
The central portion lis semicir-A The shovel, plow, or sweep, which, as ,bed fore stated, may be of any form, is secured to the center foot or standardby a bolt 8, which passes through and is adjustable in the slot 3. In order to secure the center foot or standard to the beams of a cultivator, the Ve'rtical upper extensions 5 of the arms 2 of the center foot or standard are passed through the eyes or eyebolts 9, which serve to clamp the same to the beams, the said eyebolts and the said vertical upper extensions of the arms of the center foot or standard adapting the latter to be secured at any desired,ad justment to the beams. The collars 6 bear on the eyebolts, as shown, and prevent the center foot or standard from becoming disengaged from the eyebolts when the beam is raised. V
My improved center foot or standard may be attached to the beam or beams of a cultivalor in any other suitable manner and by any other suitable means, if preferred, and I do not limit myself in this particular.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings my improved center foot or standard is shown attached toand disposed between two beams, one of the latter, for the sake of clearness of illustration, being indicated by dotted lines; but it will be understood that my improved center foot may be secured to a single beam, it' desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A center foot or standard of the class described comprising a metallic bar bent to form the upward diverging arms 2 and the slot 3 between the said arms at the lower end of said center foot or standard, in combination with eyebolts and collars on the upper portions of said arms 2, said collars having set-screws, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JAMES E. GREATHOUSE.
