Description

J. W; WEBB :Subsoil Plow.
N0.'1 08,860. Patented Nov. 11 1870.
N PETERS. PHOTO-UTNOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. WEBB, OF COTTON VALLEY, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 108,860, dated November 1,1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. WEBB, of 00tton Valley, Macon county, in the State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows with Subsoil Attachment; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The nature or essence of my invention consists in the particular construction and arrangement of devices forming the improved plow with subsoil attachment described in the following specification and represented in the drawing, which isa perspective view of the same.
Intheaccompanyingdrawing,Ais the beam; B, the colter; 0, the mold-board; D, the point and share; E, the landside; F, the standard, and G the handles, all of which may be made in the form shown, or in such other form as will answer the purpose designed.
In order to apply the subsoil attachment, I make thebeam A to extend back in the rear of the standard F, to hold and support the upper end of the shank H of the subsoil-point I, which is made in the form shown, and provided with perforations, so as to be set higher or lower, as required, to work the ground either deep or shallow, as may be most desirable.
To support the subsoil-point, I take a suitable bar ofmetal and bend it double, and apply the loop to the shank H, and let the two ends extend forward each side of the standard F and beam A, as shown in the drawing, and form the brace J, and bolt it to the beam, standard, and shank of the subsoil-point to hold it in the position required, and at the same time brace the standard, so as to support it in position.
This subsoil attachment can be easily removed by unscrewing the bolts, so as to use the plow without it, and readily attached again when wanted.
Having described my improvements, what I claim as my invention and improvement in the above-described subsoil-plow is-- The arrangement of the colter B, standard F, subsoil-plow H, and double brace J, with the beam A, as specified.
- JOHN W. WEBB.
