COMBINATION GURRYCOMB AND BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 22, 1906;
Patented Aug. 31, 1909.
Serial No. 297,211.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN LABORDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riverside, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented a new and useful Combination Currycomb and Brush, of which the following is a specification.
An object of this invention is to facilitate the work of tending live stock; currying and brushing horses and other live stock, and to provide a labor and time-saving device for stable-men. I do this by providing an improved means for combining a curry-comb and brush.
I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown, but may vary the construc-' tion within the spirit of the invention.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.
Figure l is a perspective view of a curry comb and brush embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a View of the same from a different side. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
The metal-back curry-comb 1 has a plurality of rows of teeth 6 extending from its working face and a single row of teeth 6 extending in the opposite direction at its outer edge. The brush 2 has a wooden frame 5 and a bristle face 7. The handle means 3 for attaching the brush-frame to the curry-comb frame 4 comprises a handlesocket a extending from the frame 5, an attaching-plate 01 secured to the frame 4, a curved handle 0 extending from the attaching-plate, and a tang 6 extending from the handle 0 into the socket a, thereby producing a handle space 8 between the curry-comb frame and the brush-frame. The currycomb frame is rigidly secured to the brushframe, the teeth of the curry-comb being slightly above the levelof the face of the brush. By grasping the handle-means 3 either the curry-comb or the brush may be used independently or the two may be used at the same time. Each device serves as a part of the handle for the other device.
When it is desired to use either the comb alone or the brush alone, the instrument will be appropriately tilted toward one or the other of such devices. Preferably the brush surface 7 is at a farther distance from the handle-means than the ends of the combteeth so that when the brush is used alone no special attention need be had for this purpose. The working faces 6 and 7 extend practically in parallel planes, the working face of the curry-comb being above that of the brush so that when the implement is used the brush-bristles engage the object to be brushed before the teeth of the comb engage such object.
By thus uniting the curry-comb with the brush, one forms a support or practically a handle for the other when used separately,
and the rigidity of the union between the two insures the maintenance of the parallel alinement of the faces of the curry-comb and brush so that there is no yielding movement of one member relatively to the other when used conjointly.
What I claim is A combination curry comb and brush comprising a metal curry-comb frame, teeth upon the face of the curry-comb frame, an attaching-plate upon the back of the currycomb frame, a curved handle extending from the attaching-plate, a wooden brushframe, bristles extending from the face of the wooden brush frame, a handle-socket ex tending from the wooden brush frame, and a tang extending from the curved handle of the curry-comb into the socket thereby forming a handle between the curry-comb frame and the brush frame.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California this 18th day of January 1906.
J EAN' LABORDE.
In presence of,
JAMns R. TOWNSEND, C. J. WILLIAMS.
