THEODOR DRUZBACH, F HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF '10 JOSEF HAPPEL,
' OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED IRONING-BOARD, STEP-LADDER, AND BENCH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Trrnonon DRUZBAGH, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Ironing-Boards, Step-Ladders, and Benches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The general object of this invention is to provide, in a single article of manufacture, a device which, by certain changes and movements of parts, may be used either as a bench (or table), an ironing-table, or a step-ladder, and which, by reason of its form and size, will especially commend itself to domestic use, as an article of convenience and utility in the home.
It is a subsidiary object to simplify structures of this nature now in use, while, at the same time, preserving a maximum of effi cieney and durability in use.
With these objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described in the specification, summed up in the claims, and illustrated in the drawing, in which latter:
Figure l is a side elevation of my device in position for use as a bench or table; Fig. 2' is a side elevation of my device in position for use as an ironing-board, or the like; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of my device in position for use as a step-ladder; Fig. l is a vertical section on the line A-B, Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on the line CD, Fig. 3.
Referring, now, in detail to the drawing: a designates a plank or board, provided, at one end, on opposite sides, with depending supporting-hangers c, c, mounted for pivotal movement on a rod 0 ournaled in suitable bearings in a frame, comprising, preferably, the two longitudinal posts or beams b, b, the legs h, h, h, h, and the two pairs of crossed brace-bars 2', 2', each pair uniting the corresponding oppositely-disposed legs h, it. Be-
tween the two pairs of legs h, h, and parallel therewith are supported platforms or steps 0, e, e, e.
\Vhen the device is used as a bench or ta- 55 ble, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, the leg or Specification of Letters Patent.

support f, hinged at f, to the under side of the plank a, is utilized to prevent the device from tipping at this end. When the leg is not in use, as when the device is in the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3, it may be swung up flatly againstthe under side of the plank a, and there held by a catch g, pivoted at g to the under side of the plank a; it being understood that this form of catch is merely shown for illustrative purposes, and that any convenient or desired form of catch, or the like, may be used. Of course, when the device is used as an ironing-board, as shown in Fig. 2, some suitable support (not shown) may be placed under the free end of the board a, to insure stability. When the device is used as a stepladder, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the hooks (Z, (Z, mounted in one of the platforms 6, may be swung into the eyes or rings (Z carried by the under side of the board a, whereby to maintain the board against movement on its pivotal support.
From the above description, taken in connection with the drawing, the operation of my device in its several phases or aspects of use will be entirely obvious, and the many advantages inhering in my structure will be apparent, especially to those skilled in the art to which the device appertains.
It is understood, of course, that changes in detail may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described,
a frame, consisting, in part, of two longitudinally-extending, spaced beams, and legs depending from the ends thereof; a plank disposed between said two longitudinallyextending beams and provided, at one end, with depending hanger-arms; and a rod supported in said frame and upon which said hanger-arms are pivotally mounted.
2. In a device of the character described, a frame, consisting, of two longitudinallyextending, spaced beams, legs depending from the ends thereof, and two pairs of crossed brace-bars uniting corresponding legs; spaced platforms supported between said two pairs of crossed brace-bars and also secured between said legs; a plank disposed between said two longitudinally-extending beams and provided, at one end, with depending hanger-arms; and a rod supported in said frame and upon which said hangerarms are pivotally mounted.
3. In a device of the character described, a frame, consisting, in part, of two longitudinally-extending, spaced beams, and legs depending from the ends thereof; a plank disposed between said two longitudinallyextending beams and provided, at one end,
with depending hanger-arms; a rod supported in said frame and upon which said hangerarms are pivotally-mounted; and a hinged supporting-leg carried by the free or opposite end of said plank.
4. In a device of the character described,
a frame, consisting, in part, of two longitu dinally-extending, spaced beams, and legs depending from the ends thereof; a plank disposed between said two longitudinallyextending beams and provided, at one end, with depending hanger-arms; a rod supported in said frame and upon which said hangerarms are pivot-ally mounted; a hinged supporting-legcarried by the free or opposite end of said plank; and means for holding said leg in closed position.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
