CONCENTRATING--TABLE Patented Aug. 10, 1909. Serial No. 456,718.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN W. MEYEEs and DANIEL F. PAINE, both citizens of the United States, and residentsrof Ely, in the county of White Pine and State ci' Nevada, have invented a new and Improved Concentrating-Table, of which the 'following is a full, clear, and exact description. A Y
This invention relates to concentrating tables such as used in concentrating the crushed ores of precious metals.
More particularly the invention relates to the covering of such 'a table, and the object of the invention is to provide a table having simple means for maintaining a cover such as linoleum, in a taut condition, the general object being to prevent buckling or the formation of ridges or unevennesses in the cover, which usually necessitate the removal or replacing of the cover.
The invention consists in the construction and combination oi parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set l`orth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part oi' this speciiication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the table, certain parts being shown in cross section; Fig. 2 is a plan of a table constructed according to this invention, the middle portion of the table being omitted, and certain parts being represented as broken away; Fig. 3 is a perspective of a clevis, a plurality of which are used in the stretching device for the cover; and Fig. 4 is a perspective showing a portion of a batten .which constitutes a part of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the parts, 1 represents the top of the table which is mounted upon suitable legs 2. At the head, this table is provided with a transverse gutter 8, and beyond this gutter there is attached a vertical back 4, consisting of a steel plate which is rigidly secured in position, as
will be readily understood. On the side of` the table opposite to this back 4, that is, at the foot of the table, a sheet or cover 5 of linoleum, or similar mate rial, is ermane'ntly attached by means of suitable fastening devices 6, as shown. This linoleum forms a complete cover for the table, and its upper edge projects over the gutter 3, as indicated.
To this edge there is attached a clamp 7 which consists of a long bar or cleat 8, which has a knurled lower face 9, and this cleat is attached to a batteri 10 which is of the same length, but thinner than the cleat. This attachment is made by means of countersunk screws 11, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper face 12 of the batten is knurled like the face 9, so that when the screws 11 are tightened they will clamp the' edge of the linoleum securely therebetween, as indicated. There is also provided a plurality of clevises 13, one of which is illustrated in Fig. 3. 'lhese clevises consist substantially of rectangular sleeves, each sleeve having a slot 14 in one side thereof. ln the opposite'side an opening 1'5 is provided, through whichpasses an adjusting olt 16, the head 17 of the adjusting bolt being disposed on the inner side of the clevis, as indicated in Fig. 1. These clevises are adapted to be slid along over the clamp 7, the cover 5 being received in the slot 14, as will be readily understood. The adjusting bolts 16 extend through openings 18 formed in the lower part of the table back 4, and on their projecting extremities adjusting levers 19 are. applied, said adjusting levers having threaded heads 20 which screw upon the adjusting screws. After the clamp and clevises have been a plied, as illustrated, it will be evident that )y tightening the levers 19, the cover 5 may be tightly stretched and maintained in a stretched condition.V
To the forward side of the back, an apron 21 is attached. This apron is preferably formed of galvanized iron, or similar matcrial. It consists of a plate which has a vertical extension which is attached to the back 4 by bolts 22, as indicated. The lower part of the apron is inclined, as shown, and projects out over the clevises and the clamp so as to protect the same from the Water which iiows over the table in the concentrating process. The upper edge of the apron 21 is bent over so as to form a hook 23 which engages the upper edge of the back 4, as will be readily understood.
Attention is called to the fact that the clevises are not attached permanently to the clamp, and to the fact that they may be arranged as close together or as iar apart as may seem desirable. In this connection it should be understood that a great number of openingslS are formed in the back, which enable the adjusting screws to be placed nearer together or farther apart, if desired, so as to correspond with the arrangement ado ted for the clevises.
aving thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
l. A concentrating table having a cover attached thereto at one edge, a clamp consisting of transverse strips attached to the said cover, tension devices attached to said clamp and adapted to stretch said cover, and an apron covering said tension devices protecting the same.
2. 4A concentrating` table having a cover attached thereto at one edge, a transverse clamp extending from side edge to side edge of said cover and attached to the edge of said cover opposite said first-named edge, clevises engaging said clamp and sliding longitudinally of said clamp, adjusting devices connecting with said clevises and adapted to stretch said cover, and means whereby said clevises may be adjusted transversely of the table. i
3'. A concentrating table having a cover attached thereto at one point, a clamp attached to the edge oi said cover for stretching the same and consisting of a transverse cleat and a hatten attached thereto, clevises consisting oi sleeves adapted to slide longitudinally of said clamp andA having slots receiving said cover, adjusting devices attached to said clevises, and means whereby said clevise's may be adjusted transversely of the table;
4. A concentrating table having a cover attached thereto at one point, said table having a transverse gutter in the side opposite the point of' attachment of said cover, a clamp attached to the edge of said cover at said gutter, clevises engaging said clamp at said gutter, and adjusting screws mounted in said clevises.
5. A concentrating table having a cover attached thereto at one point, said table having a transverse gutter in the side opposite the point of attachment of said cover, a clamp attached to the edge of said cover at said gutter, clevises engaging said clamp at said Orutter, adjusting screws mounted in said czievises, a back in which said adjusting screws are mounted, and an a )ron projecting over said cleviscs and said c amp and protecting the same from the water running over said table.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
