COVER FOR CAPS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2'7, 1909.
Application filed March 20, 1909. Serial No. 484,727.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE J. NovosoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cityof St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Covers for Caps and the Like, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cap provided with a cover embodying my invention, the flaps of the cover being turned up to show the cap therebeneath; and Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in covers for caps and the like, the object being to provide a cover for caps and the like having a sight-opening to expose to view, or through which may be seen, a number, emblem of rank, or other lettering on the cap over which the cover is adapted to fit.
With this object in view, my invention consists in the novel construction of my cover, all as will hereinafter be described and afterward pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a cap of ordinary or approved style or shape, having a vizor 2.
3 indicates a cover, preferably of waterproof material, which is made to conform to the shape of the cap over which it is adapted to be applied. This cover 3 may be secured on the cap in any suitable manner, preferably by slitting the back and providing flaps 4, which flaps are adapted to over-lap and which may be fastened together by means of a snap-button or other suitable fastening device 5.
In the front of the cover 3 I provide an opening 6 to expose to view, or through which may be seen, a number or emblem 7 on the front of the cap 1. I also preferably cover this opening 6 with transparent material, preferably celluloid, or other suitable flexible material 8, which is suitably stitched or otherwise secured in proper position over said opening 6. v
My cover, when removed from the cap 1 over which it is adapted to fit, may be folded or wrapped into a package of very small size without damaging or injuring the material of which it is made or said transparent, flexible material 8 fitting over said opening 6, and it will be readily seen that my cover is especially adapted for use in connection with military or other uniform caps, where it is particularly desirable that any number, word, emblem of rank, or the like, indicating the rank, position, or numbersuch as, for instance, in the case of patrolmenof the wearer of the cap may be seen at all times. While I have shown herein a rectangular sight-opening 6, it is obvious that this opening may be circular or of any other shape to correspond with the emblem or other mark or lettering on the cap to be exposed to view.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
As a new article of manufacture, a cover for caps and the like having a sight-opening therein to expose to view a number, word, emblem of rank, or the like on the cap over which said cover is adapted to fit, said sightopening being covered by transparent, flexible material suitably secured in position thereover; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAURICE J. NOVOSON.
