GAs sTovE ATTACHIIENT.
To all whom it may ments, of which the following is a specifica- This invention relates to stoves, and more particularly to liquid or gaseous fuel stoves, and has for itsobject to provide a means for protecting the valves of such stoves from being operated when it is not desired to light Another object is to provide such an article which may be attached to different stoves. Another object is to .provide such an durable and easy to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the followingdescription, and it. will be understood that changes in the departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a part of this 'ke numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views,Figure 1 is a view of a stove having the present .protector attached thereto, Fig. 2 is a view of the protector so attached, with the cover raised, Fig. 3 is a sectional view'transversely, showing the engagement of the structure over the valves and arranged to open inwardly, Fig. 4 is a similar View of the attachment arranged to open outwardly, Fig. 5 is a detail of the means for securing the protector to the stove, Fig. 6 is a detail of the cover latch, Fig.7 is a perspective view of a modified form of theprotector, Fig. 8 is a similar view with the cover raised, showing match and match stem boxes. Referring to the drawings, there is shown a stove 10 having oven valves 11 and top valves 12, over which the present protector is adjusted, as shown.

stove. The rear side 16 of theframeis arranged to have a space 17 between its lower edge and the bottom portion when secured to thestove, thus accommodating itself to any number of burners within its length. A cover 18 is hinged to the upper edge of the side 16, and is provided with a spring 19, acting between the side 16 and the cover 18, the spring being under pressure to force the cover normally into raised position. he front side 20 of the frame 16 is provided with a cylindrical channel 21, ex-
end toward the center and having an upwardly extending lateral slot 22 connected therewith and opening through the upper edge of the side 20. A push-rod 23, having a head 241 at its outer end, and at its inner end a laterally extending arm.25 provided with abeak 25, is slidably engaged in the held at the outward limit of its movement by a spring 26 hearing against its inner, end and seated in the adjacent end of the channel21. The arm 25 extends upwardly through the slot 22, the'beak 25 being presented above the edge of the side 20 to form a latch, as will be indicated. The beak 25 is beveled backwardly from its tip for a purpose to be indicated' The cover 18 is provided with a lip-piece 27 on its lower edge arranged against the beveled portion of the beak 25 when the cover is pressed downward, the lippiece forcing the push-rod inwardly. until the lip becomes engaged under the beak, thus holding the cover against raising until the push-rod is operated to release it, when the cover will be automatically lifted by the force of the spring 19. Adjacent to the lippiece 27 and extending laterally of the lid, there is a slot 28, having a lock member 29 mounted slidably therein, which engages against the inner end of the push-rod 28 to hold the beak 25 in engagement over the lip 27. The lock member 29 is arranged for movement out of such position by means 0 a knob 30 extending through the-slot and outwardly of the cover.
In. each end of the. protector there are mounted small boxes 38, suitable for containing matches and receiving stems, as shown.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8, there is shown a base ortion 31, comprising a casting shaped to orm an inclosure open at the back and havchannel 21, being to strike burned match scribed,
it would be necessary stood, however, that the ing slots 32 extending forwardly in each end to receive a gas-pipe slidably therein when attached to the stov A bottom portion 13 similar to the portion 13 above deis secured in the 31 also carries a cover 18' and latching means similar to those described'above and shown in Fig. 5.
To disengage the protector from use,
strap pieces 14 are-disengaged from over the pipes, and the casing moved outwardly, the valve passing through the space between the rear side 16 and the bottom 13. It will be apparent that the protector may be engaged with the valve by a reverse operation. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, to turn the protector upwardly 11 order to disengage the valve stem after moving the casing outwardly into engagement therewith. It will be. unders ace between the bottom and the portion 16 may be made of any desirable size without destro 'ng the effectiveness of the protector as this opening is closed by being disposed closely against the stove.
What is claimed is:
1. An attachment for stoves com rising a base portion, means for locking the cover to the ,base portion, said base portion and cover being arranged f r detachable engagement with base 31. The base l a cover portion hinge thereto,
sea-#70 stove valves, and means for fastening the attachment to the stove. j
2. A'stove valve protector comprising a base portion arranged for detachable engagemelit with the supply pipes of a stove, a cover pivoted on the ase portion, a latch mechanism arranged to secure the cover in closed positlon, and means for locking the latch against disengagement.
3, A casing for pipe valves, comprising a base portion-and a cover .portion adapted or detachable engagement with valves, and means for locking said cover and. base in closed position.
4. An article of the class described comprising a base portion adapted for detachable engagement with pipes, and a hinged cover carried thereby, latch connections between said cover and base, and means for locking said cover in closed position.
casing arranged for adjustable engagement over a plurality of pipe valves, and having an opening therein, a closure for said opening, and means for securing said closure in closed position to prevent operation of valves withln 'said casing.
In testimon whereof Iafiix'my signature, in presence 0 two witnesses.
