VTo all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that we, FREDERICK WILL and HUGO Biioirnn, both of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State o'New York, have invented certain new andv useful lmprovements in- Gas-Stoves; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specioation, and to the referencemumerals marked thereon.
Our present invention relates to improvements in gas stoves, and moreV particularly to the type of stove employed both for baking and broilingf, and it has for its object to provide means for enabling they stove to be used more readily for broiling.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a construction' whereby when the gas stove is used for broiling purposes, the broiler is in a convenient position and more readily accessible to the operator.
' Another object Iof the invention is to provide a structure that enables the bottom of liti the gas stove to serveas a supporting means forthe broiler, when the latter is to be used. Still a further object of the invention residesv in the rovision of means for increasing the heating capacity of the burners under the oven.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
lln the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing the upper portion of a coal range and a gas stove arranged thereabove, embodying a preferred form of the invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on .the
Fig. 3 is a sectional view line :v--zv of Fig. l; on the line y-y of Fig. 2, taken in the direction 'of the arrows and showing in dotted lines the position of the sections of the sto ve bottoni when the broiler is in use; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line af-a ot llig. f2, looking downwardly; Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line wb oft' lig. 3, taken in the direction ci the arrows, and 6 is an enlarged sectional view'on the line eme" olrlli el, in direction indicated. Similar reierence numerals throughout the several gnres indicate the same parte.
The invention is susceptible ci* a number Specication of Letters Patent.

of dilierent applications, and we have shown a preferredform as embodied in a combination stove, including a coal range and a gas of the coal range being designated at l, while 2 is the main Hue connected, as shown, with the coal range, and connected by the vpipe 3 with the gas stove, the latter being arranged above the top of the coal range. The passage 3 trom the gas stove is preferably conto a lever 5, the latter having an enlarge ment dat its forward end arranged to be engaged by the door 7 for closing the gas oven 8.` By this means, whenever the gas oven is opened, the damper 4 is also opened, to insure the passing of the products and gases to the flue, and to prevent their entering the room.
stove arranged thereabove, the upper part trolled by the damper 4 which is connectedA burners to be used for heating the gas oven position shown in i41 ig. 3, 'or in any of the l When the parts are in normal position as shown in full lines in Fig. 3, the gas oven may be used in the usual manner. When breil-ing is to be done, the broiler is removed, the sections l0 being released and dropped downwardly, whereupon the broiler may be inserted at the desired elevation, and the broiling operation proceeded with. By this arrangement, a very convenient and compact construction is provided, accomplishing all the purposes that have heretofore required a much larger form ofv stove. Further, the broiler is brought nearer to the top of the coal range, thus making it more accessible and enabling the article being cooked to be watched and controlled with greater facility. The space above the coal range, that is savedfbyth'e present arrangement may be employed for any `convenient purpose, .and in the present embodiment, is utilized by a shelf 18.
The lugs l5y on the stove bottom serve, also, to hold the heat from the burners and to supply it to the oven for a longer period after the burners are shut off.
TWhile we have described the invention with reference to a particular embodiment, its application is notlimited to the exact construction disclosed, since it comprehends any modication coming within the terms of the claims hereinafter.
lVhat we claim is:
l. A gas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below the burner, said stove bottom including a pair of hinged sections and means for supporting a broiler below the burner when the sections are lowered.
2. A. gas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below the burner, said stove bottom including a pair of movable sections adapted to be lowered from their rnormal position, and means carried by the sections for supporting a broiler between them when the sections are lowered.
3. A gas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below Lne burner, said stove bottom including a pair of hinged sections, and guideways arrangedon the sections whereby to support a broiler when the sections are lowered.
4. A gas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below the burner, said stove bottom including a pair of hinged sections, guideways arranged on the sections whereby to support a broiler when the sec tions are lowered, and means for holding the sections raised.
5. A Vgas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below the burner, said stove bottom including hinged sections movable to a vertical position, and means carried by said sections for supporting a broiler below the burner when in such vertical position.
6.' A gas stove comprising a burner, a stove bottom disposed below the burner, and movable to a vertical position, said movable bottom including means for supporting a broiler below the burner when in said vertical position.
7. A gas stove comprising a burner, and a hinged stove bottom disposed below the burner and adapted to be lowered from its normal position, said hinged bottom including means for supporting a broiler in various positions below the burner when the bottom is lowered.
8. A gas stove comprising a burner, broiler supporting sections which are movable and adapted to be lowered to vertical positions beneath the burner, and means carried by the sections for supportinga broiler therebetween when the sections are lowered.
