'ARTHUR G. LAWRENCE, or oaronsvrnnn, manna SAFETY amracnmnnr non ens-sci:ovzesl Specification of Letters Patent.
, Patented May 2, 1911.
Application flled November 2, 1910. Serial 1 10. 590,313.
Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. LAwRnNoE,
and State of Maryland, have, invented certain Improvements in SafetyIAttachments for Gas-Stoves, of which the following is a.
specification.
It frequently occurs that, the cooks which control the flow, of gas to the-burners-ofa gas cooking range. are accidentally opened:
or closed by the contact with their-handles,
of the clothing of persons passinglthestovep and the object of the present inyentionisto prevent such contact without in any manner interfering with themanipulation of the,
cocks when required, as will hereinafter fully appear.
In the further description of the said in- .vention which follows, reference is made to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which,-'-
Figure 1 is a partly sectional front view of certain partsl of a gas cooking-range to which my invention is applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged partly sectional side View of cer; tain parts shown in Fig. .1 Fig. 3 is a perspective view of certain parts of the invention. Fig. 4 illustrates a modified construction of apart of the invention.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 cooking-range and a the top plate thereof. 2 is the main gas supply pipe and 3, 3 are the cocks which unite the mam gas pipe 2 with'the branch pipes leading to the burners not shown. The keys of the cocks 3fare represented by b and the. handles whereby.
the keys are turned by 0. 5, 5 are brackets the hubs of which are placed around the main gas pipe 2, and" held there by the set.
of the drawing, 1 is the main-body or portion of a gasscrews 7 is a protective shield consisting of a plate which is secured to the brackets -5 by tap screws. The shield is placed in front of the handles 0 of the gas-cocks 3, but so far removed from them as to admit of the manipulation ofthe'handles by the fingers; and to make .the shield a complete protective device without afiecting the opening and closing of the gas'cocks', its upper edge is curved inward 'soas to partially cover the ends of the bandles when the cocks are open, as shown in Fig. 2 in which a handle is illustrated in dotted lines.
I When the invention is a to be applied stoves now in use, the brackets 5 are made 1n two parts clamped together and to the main gas pipe2 as shown in Fig. 4
I claim as my-invention, In combination with the horizontal main gas supply pipe-50f a cooking range, and the cocks which lead fromthe said pipe to the burners, an "immovable protective shield which is situated in front of the said cocks, and means whereby the said shield is secured to the saidflsupply pipe with its lower por- ARTHUR G; LAWRENCE.
