skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to heating devices designed for use in connection with gas or other illuminating burners, and the object thereof is'to providean improved device of this class which is simple 1n construction, comparatively inexpenswe, and WlllCll may be quickly and easily applied to an ordinary gas burner, and which may be used for the. 0 purpose of heating a room, as a support for an article to be cooked, or for a vessel containing water or other liquids to be heated or food to be cooked; a further object being to provide a device of the class specified one part of which may be used as a stove lid or cover, or as a broiler, or in connection with a gas range or similar heater for various purposes in the process of cooking different articles of food; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of'which the accom- 5 panying drawing forms a part, in whichthe separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters, in
each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is aside view of a gas [fixture 40 provided with my improvement, the construction of which isshown in section Fig. 2 a bottom plan view ofthe device detached from the gas fixture with part of the construction broken away, and showing parts thereof in a different position ;-F1g.
3 a plan view of a blank from whichis formed the supporting member of my im yprovement by which it is connected with the gas fixture, and Fig. 4 a view similar'to Fig. 1, but showing a detail only and showlng a modification. I 1 In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown a gas fixture a, comprising a supply 'pipeoprovided with a nozzle a and in the practice of my inven Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 9, 1912. Serial No. 708,419.

tion, I cut from a suitable sheet ofmetal a clrcular disk or plate 6 provided with a dependlng inwardly curved rim :6 and the central portion of which'is perforated or 1 provided with apertures b which may be of any desired number and of any preferredsize. 5 c
Mounted beneath the disk or plate 6 is a damper 0 adapted to close the perforations or apertures 6 and said damper is provided with ashank or'handle member 0 pivoted adjacent to one edge of the disk or plate 6, as shown at 0 and said shank orhandle member is providedwith a handle 0* which passes through a slot bf inthe rim 6 of the dlsk or plate b,and int-he end of which is preferably formed a hole or opening 0 by 7 means of which the device may be suspended from a hook, nail or other device, when not in'use.
I also provide a spider-shaped holder or support d for the disk or plate 6, comprising a tubular member d adapted to be passed down over the nozzle a of the gas fixture a, as shown in Fig. 1, and having radially and upwardly directed spring arms (Z provided with outwardly directed projections or feet d adapted to be inserted into an annular groove formed by the rim 6 of the disk or plate I), and which opens inwardly. The holder or support d, is formed from a blank d shown in Fig. 3, oneend portion of whichis split longitudinally to form similar parts (i from which the spring arms 05 are formed, and in Fig. 4, I have shown a modification in which the projec -tions or feet 6 of the spring arms 01 are made longer, so that said arms will form .a more substantial support for the disk or plate in case it may be desired to place an article of considerable weight thereon. With this construction the disk or plate blmay be quickly and easily connected with the sup port cl by simply slipping the outer end portionsof two of the arms 0Z into the groove formed by the rim b of said disk or plate, and then springing the other arm inwardly slightly so that the projection or foot 61* at the end thereof-can also enter said groove, and said disk may be detached from its support by reversing the above operation.
When this device is intended for the purpose of heating a room only, the damper a may be closed, and at the same time water 1 or othermaterial may be heated in a suitport for various articles to be heated or cooked, or vessels containing such articles, and the use of the damper on all such occasions will be readily understood, and when the device is not in use it may be suspended from a wall or other support by means of the handle 0 and the use of my improvement in connection with a gas burner does not interfere with the use of said burner for illuminating purposes.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. In a heating attachment for gas burners, a disk or plate provided with a depending inwardly curved rim forming an annular groove which opens inwardly, and a support adapted to be connected with the nozzle of the burner, and provided with upwardly and outwardly directed spring arms having end projections adapted to enter said groove.
2. In a heating attachment for gas burners, a disk or plate provided with a depending inwardly curved rim forming an annular groove which opens inwardly, and a support adapted to be connected with the nozzle of the burner, and provided with upwardly and outwardly directed spring arms having end projections adapted to enter said groove, said disk or plate being provided centrally with perforations or apertures, and said rim with a horizontal slot and a damper mounted on the bottom of said disk or plate and adapted to open and close said apertures, said damper being provided with a handle which extends radially of the bottom of said disk or plate and is pivoted thereto adjacent to one edge portion. thereof and which passes through the slot in the rim thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 8th day of July 1912.
PAUL W. KOHLOFF.
