APPAREL-CORSET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the fol lowing is a specification.

The latest fashion and requirement inapparel corsets particularly in corsets adapted for use with stout figures is to inclose the fig ure below the depth of the corset of any usual construction particularly at the sides and back so as to obviate the protuberant tendency of the flesh particularly in a standing posture. By effecting this condition the smooth regular unwrinkled fit of the outer garments is insured. In the device of my application Serial #451,577, filed September 3, 1908, this desired condition is provided for with particular reference to the back over the buttocks, and in the device ofmy present invention this desired condition is provided for with particular reference to the sides and front and for the application of tension thereto.

In carrying out my invention and in combination with the inclined tapering and adjustable straps and their skirt extensions or rolongations shown and described in my atent No. 798,967 dated September 5 1905, I provide skirt extensions or prolongations of or'from the fabric body of the corset at the front which merge into or are connected to the exaggerated skirt extensions of the inclined tapering straps. These skirt extensions or prolongations from the fabric body of the corset are deepest at the front and gradually taper around toward the back where they are appreciably shallower than at the front. Hose supporter devices are connected to the lower edges of the skirt extensions below the inclined tapering straps and also preferably at about midway of the sides so as to provide tension by both the pull around and downwardly.

In Fig. 1, e represents the inclined tapering strap of my Patent #798,967, with eyelets 2 connecting the same adjustably with a post 3 on the corset steel 1), and f is the skirt extension or prolongation of said strap 6. ihe essential feature of my present invention consists in the skirt extensions 9 h alike and prolonged from-or connected to and extending below-the fabric body of the halves of a corset of any usual construction, and extending from a minimum depth of about three inches at the back around the sides to the front and to almaximum depth at the front of about four and a half inches. As will appear from Fig. 1 the lower and for ward edge of the skirt extension 9 is secured to the adjacent lower free edge of the extension f of the inclined tapering strap 6 and the hose supporter f is secured at the same lower edge of the extension f while the hose supporter 5 is preferably secured to the extene sion g directly over the hips. The supporter 5 under tension pulls directly down while the supporter 4 pulls down and at a slightly forward inclination not only applying abdominal tension on the strap 6 but a circular or all around tension on the extension 9. Hose supporters 6 may be employed and secured to the lower edge of the corset directly below the steels.

As will appear from Fig. 2, showing a form of my invention, I may prefer in lieu of the strap 0 and its extension f to employ the inclined tapering strap '5 having a downward and outward inclination away from the front steel, secured at its upper inclined edge to the edge 7 of the gore c and connected at its lower free end to the forward free end and lower edge of the skirt extension h at which place of union is secured one of the hose supporters 4. The disposition of tension applied to this structure is to pull down and forward upon the strap 'i and simultaneously to pull upon the skirt extension 7L applying tension around the same below the corset from toward the back. This tension is not in evidence and is not required in the sitting position of the wearer of the corset, but is in full force and effect in the standing position for which the structure is particularly designed and produces a smooth progressively increasing and decreasing outline or contour to the figure particularly suited to certain styles of dress particularly among which is the Empire effect.

In all the figures of the drawing the dotted line 7 indicates approximately the lower edge of a corset of usual construction.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a corset, the combination with tapering inclined straps overlying the body fabric at the front of the corset adjacent to the front steels, which extend over and beyond the lower edge of the corset, of skirt extensions or prolongations from the lower edge of the corset at the front and sides under-running the strap prolongations and joined together at the -lower end of the latter and lower forward end of the former, and means connected to and for applying tension to said parts at the place of union.

2. In a corset, the combination with tapering inclined. straps overlying the body fabric at the front of the corset adjacent to the front steels, which extend over and beyond the lower edge of the corset, of skirt extensions or prolongations from the lower edge of the corset at the front and sides joined together at the lower end of the former and lower forward end of the latter, and means connected to and for applying tension to said parts at the place of union.

'3. In a corset, the combination with tapering inclined straps secured along upright ends to the fabric body and adjustably connected at the opposite ends to the corset steels and overlying the body fabric at the front of the corset adjacent to the steels and prolongations therefrom which extend down over and beyond the lower edge of the corset, of skirt extensions or prolongations from the lower edge of the corset at the front and sides, the one part under-running the other part and joined together at the lower ends of the said parts, and hose supporters connected to and for applying tension to said parts at the place of union.

4. In a corset, the combination with front gores in the fabric body from the lower edge upward adjacent to the front steels, of skirt extensions or prolongations from the lower edge of the corset secured thereto at the sides and front and stopping at the lower distant corners of the gores with free lower ends extending forward and tapering, inclined straps overlying the fabric body at the front of the corset adjacent to the front steels which extend over and beyond the lower edges of the corset with their lower free ends united to the free forward ends of the skirt extensions and means connected to said places of union for applying tension to said parts.
